July 2019
I was surprised and super excited when I was invited to attend Google for Education Certified Innovator!! I would be attending the event on 11-13 September 2019.
For those who are curious as how I got the invitation, at first I got an email saying that I was invited to apply Google for Education Certified Innovator in Singapore. Then, I complete the application, along with a video of my purpose of what I wish to achieve with sharing and applying Google Tools.
Here is my video application. Stay in touch for my story becoming one of these wonderful innovators. Wow!!
Approaching towards the end of 2017, SMP Lazuardi Al Falah GIS (https://www.lazuardialfalah.sch.id) invited Mr Steven Sutantro to train all teachers on Google Suite for Education. It was my first time learning that Google Tools were beyond Gmail and Google Drive, the one and only applications I knew. Mr Steven opened our minds that there are a lot of applications in Google that enable teachers to work more efficient, even share and collaborate more easily.
I was fascinated to learn that I would be able to provide students with either individual and collaborative tasks using Google Tools, such as Google Docs, Google Spreadsheet, and Google Slides. I was also able to use Google Forms for exams or for surveys. Mr Steven also inspired us with Google Classroom, where we can post learning materials, test reviews or assignments so students can access from home. I was so happy because my students no longer have missing or forgotten papers as a reason for them not to submit their assignments.
Not only for classroom teaching, our principal Ms Irma Nurul Fatimah has taken a futher step by using Google for administrative purposes. All of our lesson plans and scoring books must be stored in a shared drive that can be accessed by all teachers and administrative staffs. We have been able to reduce paper use significantly since using GSuite and create a collaborative and cooperative environment between teachers and staffs.
After training, right before the New Year of 2018, several teachers took the Google Certified Educator Exam but many failed and only a few passed. I was blessed because I was able to pass both Level 1 and Level 2.
I was amazed by the exam and during those exam hours, I learnt so much and have been using the knowledge in daily activities.
JULY 2018, SMP LAZUARDI AL FALAH - KLATEN
For some teachers, working with Google Suite for Education can be daunting. Some of them took longer time to accept and transform their teaching with Google. Particularly for teachers who teach at our school SMP Lazuardi Al Falah, Klaten. In which, Internet coverage areas are still in early developments and they often have difficulties in connecting to the Internet.
When I was asked to provide Google for Education training, I started by raising the issue of 21st century skills that we need to develop in our students. Then, I showed them that by using Google Suite for Education, teachers can achieve and develop those skills. By having shared assignments, students are able to collaborate and communicate with their groups to finish their tasks. At the end of the training sessions, most teachers gained their enthusiasm to integrate Google into their classroom.
SEPTEMBER 2018 - LP3i SUKABUMI
Another opportunity for me sharing knowledge and experience in GSuite for Education came when I was invited to LP3i Sukabumi. All of teachers there are professional workers and they showed disinterests when I first arrived. They think they had already known all about Google. However, I was able to get their full attentions when I showed them on how Google tools can ease their teaching and learning activities.
I made them exploring Google Tools from computers and their smartphones. They were excited when they experienced working in a collaborative and communicative environment. They learnt how to integrate their Hangout meetings with Google Calendar and how to map students' residence using Google My Maps. One particular respond from the participant I got at the end of training: "Ms Andri, I first underestimated you. I thought I did not need this training, but now I could see using Google in my class. Thank you"
At the beginning of academic year 2018, I started to build some lesson plans using Google Tools, particularly for integrating technology and engineering into mathematics class. Here are some sample lesson plans.
