Bio: Brother-in-law of Shigemori, Father-in-law of Koremori, Close associate of Go-Shirakawa.
A member of the Fujiwara clan. He was stepped over for promotion in favor of Kiyomori's second son rather than someone more fitting for the job. Following the failure of his attempt to have a holy man perform the rite of Dakini, Narichika attends a drinking party of Cloistered Emperor Go-Shirakawa and adds his name to the list of conspirators against the Heike.
His plot against the Heike is discovered, and he is tortured. However, Shigemori dissuades Kiyomori from executing him, and he is instead exiled to Kikai-ga-shima and separated from his family. He choses to become a monk and is later killed by servants of Kiyomori. They first try to poison him, but when that doesn't work they decide to push him off a cliff into a bed of spikes. This gruesome death, ordered by Kiyomori, adds to the negative karma which Kiyomori spends the first few books accumulating and hastens the end of the Taira. He is also referred to when the list is being given to Go-Shirakawa on who would be willing to fight with him against the Heike.
