Connections to Contemporary Works:

We see a similar eradication of a powerful noble family in the book series A Song of Ice and FIre and its television show Game of Thrones. After the Targaryens rise to power using violent means, there is a revolt against their rule lead by House Baratheon. When they are defeated, the Baratheons attempt to eliminate all the the Targaryen heirs. They send assassins to kill Daenerys Targaryen out of fear of her rising up to take the throne, similar to how Yoritomo has Rokudai executed out of fear of him leading a revolution against the Genji.
