Facilitated by the National TB Program, National Reference Laboratory of Burkina Faso, National Laboratory Directorate, World Health Organization, Riccardo Alagna from the SRL Milan has provided support to develop the technical specification of the BSL-3 mobile laboratory container to be included on tender for manufacturer selection.

2017

January

Riccardo Alagna from the SRL Milan has participated to a comprehensive assessment of the

TB laboratory network identifying strengths and weaknesses of the national TB laboratory network and providing short-, medium- and long-term recommendations to the Ministry of Health, NTP/NRL and partners

February-June

Facilitated by the National TB Program, National Reference Laboratory of Burkina Faso, World Health Organization, Riccardo Alagna from the SRL Milan has provided support to develop Xpert MTB/Rif implementation plan 2018-2022 and develop the document that regulates and standardize the national specimen transport system. 

The SRL Milan has also provided support to improve laboratory data management at the NRL with a tool implementation (excel based) that collect laboratory results and automatically calculate laboratory indicators in line with the “GLI Practical Guide for TB laboratory Strengthening” document.

The SRL Milan has also supported the country to finalize the DRS and results have been included on the WHO  Global TB report 2017. Upon request of the NTP, the SRL of Milan has also provided support to develop the National Strategic Plan 2018-2022, estimate the funding needs for the next Global Funds grant cycle, support on GF country team clarifications and develop a new interim national diagnostic algorithm to move toward the universal patient access to rapid testing and DST planned for 2020

October-November

Facilitated by the National TB Program, National Reference Laboratory of Burkina Faso, World Health Organization, Riccardo Alagna and Daniela Cirillo from the SRL Milan has provided support to identify priority activities to be included on the next technical assistance plan (2018).

December

Riccardo Alagna from the SRL Milan has provided support to evaluate the impact of pilot implementation of GxAlert system in Burkina Faso

2016

February-March

3-days visit facilitated by the National TB Program, National Reference Laboratory of Burkina Faso, World Health Organization, the SRL Milan has provided support to plan TA activities for the year 2016 and assess the TB National Reference Laboratory of Burkina Faso.

March-October (multiple visits)

Facilitated by the National TB Program, National Reference Laboratory of Burkina Faso, World Health Organization, Riccardo Alagna from the SRL Milan has provided support to decentralize the Xpert MTB/RIF technology at regional level by (i) ensuring the accurate installation of 12 new Xpert MTB/RIF machines, (ii) supporting training activities for technicians and clinicians and, (iii) in close collaboration with SystemOne, facilitating the pilot implementation of the GxALert system.

The SRL Milan has also assisted the National Reference Laboratory in strengthening the culture system and DST, implementing the MTBDRsl, and executing the Drug Resistance Survey.
