September 25-29, 2017

• • Practical course on TB laboratory safety at SRL Gauting. Three key NRL staff joined the training: Ms Aigul Musaeva (Lab doctor), Ms Meerim Sydykova (Lab doctor) and Aisuluu Chobueva (Lab technician). The training consisted of lectures, practical exercises, group discussions and home assignments.  Participants also took part in the laboratory safety audit. The key contents of the training programme were: general laboratory safety, risk assessment, the code of practice for biosafety, laboratory biosafety manual, the role of laboratory infrastructure, safety equipment: daily use and regular maintenance,  personal protective equipment (PPE), disinfection and waste management, management of laboratory incidents: role of functional QMS.

Technical working group meetings on human resource development plan (HRDP) for Kyrgyz TB laboratory network on 15th February and 30th May, 2017 moderated by Uladzimir Antonenka.

Workshop “Xpert MTB/RIF maintenance and monitoring” by Uladzimir Antonenka

Technical assistance visit by Harald Hoffmann to:

• • assess progress, major achievements and current challenges of the NRL,

  • discuss with the head of the NRL current challenges with the maintenance of laboratory equipment,

  • attend a session of the stakeholder meeting preparing a new NTP roadmap organised by USAID challenge TB and to meet and discuss with USAID & fhi360 representatives actual needs and challenges regarding logistics,

  • discuss with representatives of NRL, KNCV and the USAID challenge TB project current gaps and needs of amendment of the national TB diagnostic standards with regards to short term MDR-TB treatment and the use of the new antiTB drugs delamanid (Dlm), Bedaquilin (Bdq), Linezolid (Lzd), and Clofazimine (Cfz)

  • review the progress of the monitoring project of Xpert MTB/diagnostics.

Laboratory training at NRL by Evgeni Sahalchyk 

Main components: 

• • Performance of the baseline assessment of Quality Management System (QMS) of NRL;

  • Elaboration of QM documents and their implementation (SOPs for general laboratory regulations and laboratory management);

  • Development of Quality Management Handbook (HR component);

  • Updated concepts for the education of laboratory specialists in the NRL.

2015

50 strains monthly for DST, paid by the ICRC, performed in Borstel SRL

March 02-10, 2015

A three weeks mission has been provided in March, 2015 by the SRL expert Evgeni Sahalchyk to the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) in Bishkek and the regional DST laboratory of Osh, Kyrgyzstan. The main aims of the mission were:

• • Further elaboration and adjustment of QMS documents and their implementation in the NRL, Bishkek (SOPs for equipment and general laboratory regulations).

  • Development of basic QMS components and improving performance of routine culture and molecular methods in TB diagnostics for Osh.

2014

November 26 - December 11, 2014

Technical assistance visit to Osh DST laboratory to perform practical implementation of QMS components for drug susceptibility testing. The main components of the mission were:

• • Revision of FLD and SLD stocks in the laboratory;

  • Assessment of solid media quality;

  • Elaboration of QMS documents and their implementation (SOPs for all procedures covering FLD and SLD DST on solid and liquid media, including internal QC);

  • TA on DST results interpretation, troubleshooting on discrepant results;

  • Improving performance of routine culture methods in TB diagnostics

March 9-29, 2014

Technical support mission to perform extensive practical laboratory training on FL- and SL-DST on liquid and solid media, as well as decontamination and culture. Additionally, a first scheduled maintenance of laboratory building and its infrastructure was discussed with a service team. The main training components of the mission were:

• • Refresher training and troubleshooting on SL-DST using proportional method;

  • DST on liquid media (MGIT);

  • Further implementation of QMS – HR components.

2013

Under a project of governmental co-operation of Germany with the Central Asian Republic of Kyrgyzstan, a new National Reference Laboratory of bio-safety level 3 (BSL-3) has been constructed in the capital Bishkek in modular, turn-key design. The laboratory has been designed by the SRL partner of the Kyrgyz NRL. The construction has been financed by the KfW Development Bank, coordinated by GITEC Consult GmbH, department Health, and handed over to the Kyrgyz NTP in June 2013.
