it TAKES A COMMUNITY

to raise a child

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Driving Question: How can we help all parents be the best parents they can be?

Project Problem + Purpose: We will examine the major developmental milestones for children from conception through adolescence in the PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, and COGNITIVE domains. Emphasis is placed on issues that affect typical and atypical development through the study of theories, research, guest speakers.

Community Partners + Engagement: We want to thank the Kassy's Kause organization and give a special thanks to Susan Aguayo & Deona Foust. Students were able to engage with their community through this project by creating zines to be shared with classmates and the community.

TEACHER HIGHLIGHTS

I thoroughly enjoyed providing students with information, resources and topics, then allowing them to creatively produce their ideas on their own terms, in the form of a zine page. Students had the freedom to make their zine pages in any format of their choosing. I was impressed with the creative expressions! - Ms. Moore, B.S., M.A.T., Project Teacher

It was such an honor to work with these young individuals in this class and really explore these deep ideas around the world of parenting, growing up, and personal growth. We shared spaces filled with art, media, articles, and so much else as were able to explore the true meaning and challenges of raising a child. I am inspired by them every day to continue my growth as an educator - Ms. Omkulthoom Qassem, M.A., B.A., Project Teacher
