HERE COMES THE SUN

Project Description

Driving Question: How do we help keep burquenos skin healthy from the sun?

Project Health Domains: Clients

Project Problem + Purpose: Students learned about the electromagnetic spectrum and the sun's effect on human skin. They took this knowledge as a foundation to create resources for the community to improve skin care awareness for people in Albuquerque.

Teacher Highlights

"Students embraced being out of their comfort zones in this project! They took on the challenge of being in the role of neurochemists with open arms. None of the students knew about the intricacies of neurotransmitters before our time together and. Now they have a good foundation of chemistry knowledge." - Mrs. Bridget

Student Highlights

"I learned a lot from what the sun can do to your body and how it can cause sun cancer, like the things that you notice on your body and face when your out in the sun for a long time..."

"I am mostly proud of my drawing. I did all of them by myself and well I’m not a very good artist, but I think these drawings where really good and maybe it’s because I tried. Another thing I am proud of is how fast I did it because honestly I thought I wasn’t going to be able to turn it in on time."

"I am proud of understanding the factors in developing skin cancer. For my idea, I am proud because I believe it would be a useful device."

"My favorite thing about this project is how it breaks down what sun rays do to your body. It shows you what you can use to help prevent damage to the skin from the UV sun rays."
