Project Description

Driving Question: How will you leave your legacy and set yourself up for success?

Project Health Domains: Students must address all three of the health domains in the projects they design for the community: Systems, Determinants, and Clients. They must understand how all three interact and affect the health of an individual or group.

Project Problem + Purpose: Students decide on the community problem or issue they identify through either prior knowledge and experiences or new research on a topic they have discovered. Throughout the planning of their community projects, students must explain the problem or issue in the community and how their project's purpose helps address those problems or issues. Each student will use that identified purpose to drive their projects in the community and help shape their community service or support they provide throughout their senior year.

Community Partners + Engagement: Due to students creating their own individual projects, there are multiple community partners involved through the CWP class. Students are required to identify and source community partners to help them plan and implement their projects in the community. Teachers also help provide community partners and connections beyond their projects for internship/shadowship opportunities, as well as connections to the local community college for dual enrollment courses.

Teacher Highlights

"One of my most proud moments this year was seeing the students conduct their Collaboration Cafe and hearing all of their amazing project ideas. While there, many were able to source their community partners and it was outstanding to see their professionalism and enthusiasm while describing their project ideas - truly amazing work!" - Mr. S

"My proudest moment this year is seeing how our seniors overcame adversity their last three months of school to adapt their community projects to meet the new needs of their project's audiences. It would have been very easy to disengage from their projects and our students persevered. Instead many seniors used the time of quarantine to make their projects as authentic and meaningful as possible." - Mrs. Burkett

"It was truly beautiful to see the student learning and confidence as they are highlighted in the Community Wellness Practicum. If there is ever a question of what has been taught at HLHS, just see the work done by students in the CWP. I am honored to be a small part of this excellent example of what high stakes assessment can be." - Tori Shauger, Anchor Project Consultant
