the power of play

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Driving Question: How can we as early childhood educators create safe and enriching learning for children and share resources and knowledge with our community?

Project Health Domains: Delivery Systems - disseminating resources and knowledge to our community about early childhood education

Clients - understanding on how to support children through education and interaction as parents and educators

Project Problem + Purpose: This pandemic has really changed life as we know it! How do we move forward and try to get our sense of normal back? How do we still provide children with enriching experiences? How can we create a save and sanitary learning environment for children?

Purpose: To create a Google Slide presentation for Early childhood educators about this pandemic and how it is impacting learning, and what we can do to still provide a safe educational learning experience for children.

Community Partners + Engagement: UNM Carino Toy Lending Library, ABQ Reads, New Mexico Department of Health, UNM Center for Developmental Disability

Teacher Highlights

"My Proudest moment in this project is seeing all the students with their siblings doing fun exciting activities, and not letting the pandemic bring them and the children in their lives down " - Mrs. LaVolpa

"My proudest moment in this project was seeing how students took on information that we learned, applied it to their next learning assignment showing growth, and then have created something out of this newly learned information. I have seen students work hard through this difficult time and be diligent about communication, meeting deadlines, all while coping with hard stressors. Their resilience is impressive" - Mrs. Meek

"Kristen and Wendy really level-jumped the rigor and relevance of this anchor project in 2019-20. They moved beyond the simple challenge of writing stories for early readers to an authentic challenge of designing literacy development activities that will help early readers learn to read. The fact that students had to do this in partnership with experts from the community is what Health Leadership High School is all about." Dr. Tim Kubik, Anchor Project Consultant

Students in the ECAP- "Power of Play" class were provided the opportunity to document and showcase activities for children during COVID-19. They developed weekly plans and organized activities, they documented and reflected on their work. Take a look!
