FUTURE FOCUSED EDUCATION x3

A paid work experience for high schoolers outside the classroom, inside the workforce.

  • Students are paired with local employers to provide meaningful work experiences and a monthly stipend

  • Opens doors to future careers and higher education for local marginalized youth

  • Fall and spring sessions: 13 weeks, 12 hours/wk, $2,500 per intern Summer sessions: Customized to meet employer needs

FACES for THE FUTURE

The FACES for the Future, Albuquerque program is a partnership between Native American Community Academy, South Valley Academy, Health Leadership High School and several health agencies in Albuquerque. The program officially launched in Fall of 2017. The FACES Albuquerque program provides a multi-year healthcare internship and leadership development program for Native American Community Academy, South Valley Academy, and Health Leadership High School students. The program will support entry into healthcare professions through internships, workshops, academic support, college preparation and wellness support.

STUDENT CERTIFICATIONS

CPR + FIRST AID

Students learn the importance of recognizing when CPR/First Aid is needed, ether due to an injury, heart attack, stroke, overdose, allergic reaction etc. Once they demonstrate their skills through hands on training they become certified which then provides confidence and the ability to engagement in real live situations if ever needed. This also brings pride in knowing that they have the knowledge to save someone’s life.

SHAKEN BABY SYNDROME

Students learn to understand what Shaken baby syndrome is, how to cope with a crying baby, and the life time damage this can cause not only to the baby but the person that caused the injury. Once they have fulfilled the Shaken baby Syndrome training they can go out to the community and educate others regarding the damage and impact this causes to the entire community.

BLOOD Glucose screenings

Students learn how glucose impacts the body, how to use a glucose meter, what is recommended to do when levels are too high or too low. Once they have demonstrated not only through knowledge in the topic but with hands on skills they are taken out to the community to provide screenings and educate the community about the importance of a healthy life style.

BLOOD PRESSURE

Students learn how to use a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff as well as knowledge around what blood pressure is and how it impacts the body. They learn prevention and healthy lifestyle choices. Once they have demonstrated not only through knowledge in the topic but with hands on skills they are taken out to the community to provide screenings and educate the community about the importance of a healthy life style and impact of not taking care of yourself.
