HLHS Showcase of Student Work, Passion, & Excellence

STUDENT CELEBRATIONS!

Project-Based Learning is essential to all learning process. It has never been emphasized in such a magnitude in today's schools around the world, though every learning process has involved "PBL" in a conventional classroom in an example-based mode. PBL is not only a style but an ability. We are proudly celebrating our students' achievements of their powerful PBL and awakening the great importance of a meaningful, powerful and rigorous teaching and learning through HLHS family where leaders are made!

Many students in our community are experiencing an unprecedented time of uncertainty; however, throughout this experience they have persevered not only to receive the credits needed for them to continue their high school careers but have created authentic, meaningful products that can be used immediately within their communities as well. It is important to celebrate this work in order for our students to understand that their community is supporting them just as they are working hard to support their community. In the spirit of Somos Familia please help us send our students off into the summer break with as much love as possible.

MESSAGE FROM Our Executive Director/PRINCIPAL

-Leticia Archuleta, LCSW LMSW LSSW

Health Leadership High School: a public charter school dedicated to hands-on, project-based learning that supports youth through rigorous instruction. Health Leadership High School is focused on supporting youth with rigorous academic instruction and opportunities to enter into a Health Career. Our mission is to grow tomorrow’s leaders who will create stronger and healthier communities. This website is designed to showcase student growth in becoming our future leaders in the community.

Teachers take a challenging health problem and design student projects with support from health experts who help them ensure that what they are teaching students is relevant and authentic. Students must demonstrate mastery and project completion publicly in the form of exhibitions. Connecting our students with industry partners through real-life projects, community volunteer work, mentor-ships, shadow-ships, and paid internships gives our students the opportunity to develop 21st Century Skills that include teamwork, problem solving, self-advocacy, and research practice.

The students of Health Leadership High School not only learn the value of strong citizenship, but also become leaders who are able to give back to their families and community. Students engage in collaborative work in a supportive, small school environment that values the overall well-being of young people. Health Leadership High School provides the tools and experience students need to become successful leaders in the health care industry.

HLHS Vipers are excited to share their accomplishments and welcome your feedback!

MESSAGE FROM our COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DIRECTOR

Community Engagement is one of the 3 pillars that is embedded in the instructional model at Health Leadership High School. We believe that working together with our community provides students an authentic way to gain knowledge and deepen learning. Part of the Health Leadership mission is to support student growth, develop relationships within the community and ultimately improve the quality of education. Community Engagement shifts our thinking from what students should do, to thinking about what we as a community can create.

We invite YOU to become a Community Partner at Health Leadership High School and take part in providing knowledge and expertise to our future leaders. Community Partnerships strengthen student experience through professional guidance, hands-on learning and support of student growth. You will have the opportunity to influence the development and outcomes of student projects by mentoring a student through his/her exhibition project. The experience a Community Partner provides students at Health Leadership High School is priceless. Many students have pursued areas in the healthcare field simply because of the passion and encouragement offered by their Community Partner.

You have an opportunity to make a difference! The time commitment is low. The reward is high.

We invite you to invest in our youth and become a part of our community. Together we can make a difference!

Become a Community Partner! Please submit the Google Form below or contact Carolina Quinones-Suarez at Carolina@healthleadershiphighschool.org for more information.

MESSAGE FROM OUR CURRICULUM DIRECTOR

Health Leadership High School puts student agency, leadership, and wellness at the center of our curriculum. Our project-based learning model fully integrates our pillars of community engagement and student support to create a learning environment that acknowledges each student’s needs and interests. All projects are supported by community partners who help students identify driving questions and real-world problems, and then act as mentors, collaborators, and audience for the student’s ongoing learning and project work. Our teachers design projects to include differentiation, hands-on learning, and scaffolding to ensure that all students can access the curriculum in equitable ways and are supported in their social-emotional learning, as well as mastering competencies. Each student’s journey typically includes real-world experiences that deepen their project work, including internships, shadow-ships, and industry-recognized credentials. Projects culminate in Exhibitions, which provide students with the crucial opportunity to demonstrate and reflect on their learning before an authentic audience. Through our student-centered model, as well as our deep connections with community partners, HLHS students learn to take leadership both within and beyond the classroom walls by developing their skills in a real-world context, and applying their efforts to addressing needs and problems in their communities.

As the new Director of Curriculum for HLHS, I am honored and excited to support our community of students, staff, families, and industry professionals, in the challenging work of designing learning environments and opportunities where every student can pursue the learning and skills that will bring them closer to their goals, so they can develop lives of personal fulfillment and positive impact on their communities. Congratulations to our students on their personal and professional growth this year! Go Vipers!

MESSAGE FROM OUR
sTUDENT suPPORT Team

At Health Leadership, we ask students to take big risks both academically and personally. High expectations require high levels of support, thus a 360-degree model of support is a priority of our educational program.

The student support team works to foster an environment of Positive Youth Development. Specifically, we work to help young people reach their highest potential by promoting a school culture that is safe, has structure, and promoting positive social norms.

We worked hard this year to develop strong meaningful supportive relationships with students and we hope you realize how valuable our time with you has been and how proud we all are of your growth and accomplishments!
