This sketch shows subtle position of different regions in the physical body.
PART 1. From the top of the Head to Toe is the “Bigger VIRAT HEART”,
which consists of HEART and MIND REGION.
PART 2. Heart Region: From the throat to the physical heart in the Heart
region.
Part 3. GAP 1: Sense organs like Eye, nose, mouth and ear are located in the
GAP.
PART 4: Mind Region: From Chit Lake to the top of the head. At the Top of
the head there is GAP 2 where brain cells are located.
PART 5. After Gap 2 is Godly region and at the end of Godly Region is
“SATYAPAD”.
PART 6. Central Region: from the Satyapad the Soul crosses Brahma
Randra and enters Central region.
PART 7: By the forceless force of Babuji, soul enters Central region,
Brighter World and 7 Rings of splendour.
PART 7: At the end of 7 Rings is Centre (Bhuma, ULTIMATE, MASTER CELL,
OCCIPETAL PROMINANCE, TAM and D3.}

The heart region extends up to shikhar (top). After that there is the mind region which extends up to the occipital point. There is also one superconsciousness in it, as I have hinted at in Efficacy of Raja Yoga, but it is not very active. Brahmanda begins from ajna chakra, to which one comes after crossing over the pind pradesh. Thus the chit-lake lies in brahmanda and so also the point of saraswati. I have stated in the Efficacy of Raja Yoga that the heart region is extended from head to foot, and that the entire creation lies within this circle, that is up to shikhar.

Transmission through ajna chakra or a little above it makes the abhyasi feel light. In case of transmission on the point far above the chit-lake, one will not feel the light but pressure if he is unable to bear the power. We are the sons of the land where Sun ever shines, where darkness has no place and the light bids farewell. Our yogis do not infer fire from smoke. They directly see the substance. When one comes to the real sahaj avastha, he can read the real way of each individual soul, and the tendency of Nature in his own. A little concentration will reveal all this.

Letter from K.C.Varadachari received.
"Regarding the chit centre it is situated on the forehead. It is also called Chit Lake. It is above the Ajna higher up. Since whole body is the Hrudaya or Pinda it is said to be situated there. It is the starting point of the Brahmanda.
The centres at the heart and the right chest and above the heart and above the centre at the right chest and at the Vishuddha are said to be points through which the abhyasi is taken up till he reaches the point above the Ajna or the chit lake. Please refer to Sri Raghavendra Rao also: I thought you were given this instruction when you were inducted as preceptor.
13 - Our Real Nature ( Completeworks Vol 2 - babuji)
The current which descended for bringing the Creation into being was in its absolute state. Our individual mind has been the lowest end of it. Now, if we are able to develop synonymity between both the ends, we reach a state beyond which there is but Absolute. I had once tried that, with greatest caution of course, for experience's sake upon one of the highly advanced associates for only about half a minute, and also only to the extent that the vrittis of his lower mind were impelled towards the original source. The result was that the effect weighed so heavily upon his heart that I could, with great difficulty, regulate it in about a month and a half. The current which descended in the being of man had traveled through space, on account of its propensity, and went on changing because it had come down affecting actions. It formed a centre as every action normally does. This centre is known as the chit-lake. It came down creating everything necessary for its purpose. Thus the causes that helped the process of creation began to gather. Chitlake is a place where everything remains inclined downwards, with no tendency to rise upwards unless his own or the Master's power becomes instrumental in this respect. When that is got over it resumes an upward tendency.
Now, the thing which had entered into our being created dim vibrations causing a gentle force which descends into the vishuddhi chakra (pharyngeal plexus) through the particles. This chakra, often known by diverse names, is the meeting place of the pinda (microcosm) and the brahmanda (macrocosm) regions and is the seat of maya. Immense power is located there. A man gets into dreams when his thought comes in touch with this region. The centre of fire lies close by. The deepak raga, one of the six kinds of the old classical ragas, which when sung sets the dead candle ablaze, is chanted from this point. When it comes down into the heart from this point it brings with it the state of maya, but the condition lying ahead is also present in it in a dormant state. It now divides into three branches. The middle one proceeds a little downwards and forms into a sort of knot at the place where point 'A' is located. The other two go towards the right and the left. On the left it enters into the lower region of the heart. If miracle working capacity is to be developed, one may get himself attached with that part of the current which is saturated with the mayavic condition. I may however reveal that mere meditation can develop miracles provided it is devoid of the thought of the Divine or of divine attainments. This is only a hint which I do not mean to clarify further. The Bhagavat Purana too gives methods for developing miracles by the process of meditation, but it concludes with the words of Lord Vishnu stating, "Those who want to have Me through devotion get me as well as miracles." And this is a bare fact. I do not take up the topic how fire, air and other elements came into being since it has been sufficiently dealt with in the scriptures.
Now, if we try to force our passage upwards through the medium of the current which has brought us down, it would be a very hard job for the abhyasi. We therefore take up a different course, proceeding first side ways to point number 2 and then to points number 3, 4 and 5 successively. In this way, we utilise the sub-powers lying at the points and become stronger for the enterprise. After crossing the vishuddi chakra sphere our path is straightened since we get filled up with power and the process of divinization commences. By divinization I mean that all senses and faculties are harmonized, assuming their original state, and are merged in the Real. The final state of divinization comes when every atom of the body becomes one with the Real state — the Ultimate.
Will you please throw some light on the question I am pondering over these days? In the case of intentions, the individual mind follows the intention. Wherefrom does the intention arise? Is it the work of the individual mind (manas) to arouse the intention with its deeper aspect, and then to follow it with its outer aspect? Or does the soul grasp what we see and hear and then cause waves in the mindlake (chit), to be followed by the mind?

Chit Lake of Master (Dated 18th July, 1959)
When I was at Tirupati you observed my mental lake (chit) and you found it dotted with ruby like things. That was your unique observation and a new thing to me. Please observe whether these dots are like ruby in other abhyasis also or something blackish. Saint Kasturi and Shri Ishwara Sahai have already given their observations. I shall wait for your observation to study it further. You will also write to me whether these dots are in hundreds or in thousands or in millions.
Chit Lake-Observations (24th July 1959)
Now regarding the manasa-lake or cit-lake or manasarovar in Thee and the observation you asked to me make, I have to report I tried to observe it in the case of A.B.S. and my son Arvind and my wife.
Chit Lake-Observations
P.S. I observed today the chit-lake of the two other abhyasis Shri Dhond Rao and Shri R. Annaih Naidu. But I could hardly arrive at that clear condition in them though I transmitted to it for more than 20 minutes. This confirms my view that it is at this point that the descent to the inversion happens to the lower plane of existence or the pind Pradesh which is in latency here. I do not know whether it is an index of a highly purified condition to have the dots of ruby colour in it revealing the mani padma of the Buddhist chant. The head decoration of Buddha containing petals of the lotus or more correctly the manis (gems) is the high seat of Boddhi, perhaps. But I am conjecturing here and would certainly be illuminated by Thy Grace.
Response from Babuji (Dated 30th August, 1959)
Chit Lake
Regarding your anubhava about chit I agree with you, Shri Ishwar Sahai and saint Kasturi hold the same opinion but I myself am unable to visualize it correctly. Let the heaviness of the mind be over, then I will study the subject and verify it with my Master afterwards. Your conclusion is right regarding the points looking like brilliant rubies about this poor being but why they look like that is the mystery yet to be solved. Your view regarding the descent through this point for the lower plane of existence is entirely correct. A man asked me as to why I do not take agya chakra as the point of meditation. I replied that the power for pinda pradesh comes in it and it distributes to the lower region. If one meditates on this point he will feel something flickering disturbing the meditation. I shall be praising myself if I say that to have dots like ruby colour is the very signal of the highly purified condition, but the truth must be expressed. I do not know whether Mahatma Buddha meant the same thing or something else. The Tibetan Buddhists chant 'OM MANI PADMA HUM'. There is a miracle of Mahatma Buddha shown to Jains that he sat decorated at one place with the petals of lotus and Buddhas one after the other was seen flying to sky. I hold that the purity of Buddha has been shown in this way. Precious stones are also kept in puja and often the idol is decorated with diamonds and so on. The chit lake was the only medium for him to see the light. We pray for something higher for the abhyasis.
Transmission
If you transmit through agya chakra or a little above it the abhyasi will feet light. In case you transmit with the points far above the chit lake one will not feel the light but pressure if they are unable to bear the power. We are the sons of the land where Sun never shines where darkness has no place and the light bids farewell. Our yogis do not infer fire from smoke. They directly hit the substance. When a man comes to the real sahaj avastha he can read the real ray of each individual soul and the tendency of the Nature. A little concentration will reveal all this thing. With the help of that power you came to know the condition of my chit lake. You also read the abhyasis' conditions with its help. Now I want to enter into self-praise which only my Master deserves, in saying that one of the ablest eye-specialist, being my associate said that there is a point on which if a research is done, the operation will always be successful. I told him by the diagram that this is the point. He tried and said to Shri Kashi Ram that since I told him of my research of that point the eyes did not fail to recover light. I do not remember what it was but he makes use of it. My dear Dr. trust in yourself as you have got that power and it is developing day by day.
.....
With best wishes,
Yours
Ram Chandra

Brahmanda
As for your question about brahmanda I may say that brahmanda begins from ajna chakra where one comes to after crossing over the pind pradesh. Thus the chit-lake lies in the brahmanda and so also the point of sarawasti. I have stated in the Efficacy of Raja Yoga (Edition, page 25) that the heart region is extended from head to foot and the entire creation lies within this circle i.e., up to shikhar.
********************************************
The area in all at the beginning appeared to be just a wave-filled area. It was without any dots or specks though the whole thing was light and shade. That was on the 22nd. On the 23rd again in a sitting I began to observe by transmitting firmly at the region. (Of course ABS did not experience anything peculiar and particular.) But I saw that the lake had reddish lines. But it was all in a state of vibratory movement. I slowed down the process and found that it may be considered that these lines are but the points in continuous rotation giving the impression of lines. I believe the points in thy case were brilliant rubies rather than dark or black specks. And obviously the chit was in such a placid condition that it was possible for me to see them to be an enumerable number rather than an innumerable one. Anyhow I should very much like to have thy reading. I shall try again with others. I could not succeed in the case of Shri Somesvara Sarrna. Obviously they have to be cleaned before the observation can take place.

I do not know whether Mahatma Buddha meant the same thing or something else as the Tibetan Buddhists chant Om mani padme hum (ओम् मिण प हम्). There was a miracle of Mahatma Buddha shown to the Jains — that he sat at one place, decorated with the petals of a lotus, and Buddhas one after the other were seen flying in the sky. I hold that the purity of Buddha has been shown in this way. Precious stones are also kept in places of puja, and often the idol is decorated with diamonds and so on. The chit lake was the only medium for him to see the light. We pray for something higher for the abhyasis.

Silence Speaks - book by Babuji
We have come down from the main source, and when we want to return there we will have to ascend, crossing the different Chakras or plexuses. I am not dealing here with the technique of Sahaj Marg, but with a few things necessary for those who have formed their tendency to rise above themselves. The training under Sahaj Marg starts from Karan Sharir (causal body) where the impressions are in seedling form. We do not stop the thoughts which come to the abhyasi but we try to clean every centre of the nerves and the mind lake (Chit Lake) itself. We clean the very bottom of the mind lake from where the waves start. If we somehow succeed in stopping its waves, the matter which gives them rise will remain as it is. It is possible that by the force of the will the thought waves may be stopped, but the matter which had given rise to those thought waves remains. And if it is not removed, the liberation is not possible. We should proceed in a natural way so that the poison at the root may be removed. Our associates also complain of the incursions of the thoughts, but they are happy at the same time since they find thoughts less disturbing.
There are also other Heartfulness practices that support Pratyahara, including a scientific technique that was developed by Ram Chandra of Shahjahanpur. While observing the flow of thought energy, he discovered how it descends from the ‘lake of consciousness’ – known in Yoga as the chit lake – which is associated with the prefrontal cortex of the brain and the Brahmanda Mandal or the Cosmic Region in spiritual anatomy. Thought energy descends from the chit lake towards the chest area and in most people it diverts to the left side, to the first chakra of the heart. From there it flows outwards into worldly thoughts and activities.
Then he observed that if the chit lake is first cleaned and a portion of the flow of thought energy is gently diverted towards the right side of the chest, to point 2, the point of the soul, then the seeker will be relieved of disturbing thoughts. By bringing the attention to the soul rather than to desires, the senses are naturally drawn inward. Pratyahara and vairagya go hand in hand, and a great hurdle is overcome in such a simple way.

The Great Master says "If anybody wants to search out the ocean in the human body, it is the chit lake - the point marked Z (in the Figure 11). The vibrations are there and Nature regulates them. It has no concern with the Ajna chakra. The Ajna chakra has some other purpose. It only distributes the power and energy for the consumption of the human organism while thought force works in the chit lake. There are different colours found in the people of different mentalities. The grey is the medium colour of an ordinary human being who has risen a little higher. In the case of a perfect human being the colour of the chit lake in the end turn to that of ruby. The ruby colour was discovered by Dr. K. C. Varadachari at Tirupati by his observations and it is entirely correct."
The shade of the colour is difficult to express but the realm of colourlessness starts from here onwards. The vibrations of the chit lake become very low as and when it is thoroughly cleaned and state of calmness or deep quiet is almost similar to the condition of void or sunya. However, to bring the chit lake into moderation is not that easy and persistent labour is required. The chit lake the Master says can be easily cleaned if we clean the right toe. He suggests a direct association between the tip of the toe and the chit lake. The connection between the chit and the right toe is also suggested in tradition in the natha cult of yoga and more particularly the Jnanadeva order. The right toe itself is called kala pada. The point to note, however, is that the chit or consciousness has to be cleaned thoroughly and it should come to its original state. The original state of chit is its total attention to the Divine and its perverted or inverted form is attention to manifestation of the Divine.
Points A and B, and Developing Vairagya in Sittings Kamlesh D. Patel Preceptors’ Seminar 22 October 2016, Monroe, New Jersey, USA
https://preceptor.heartfulness.org/en/preceptor/clarifications-and-talks/monroe-20161021-23
So I will give you a brief background behind points A and B; how Babuji came about this wealth of information. One day he was travelling from Shahjahanpur to Lakhimpur and during his bus travel, when he was sitting, suddenly this knowledge descended that if you meditate on point A and clean point B, a lot of things that trouble humanity can go away. Then afterwards he wrote a letter to Ishwar Sahaiji under the orders of Lalaji Saheb and that order is quite, I would say, intense and strong. He advises that everyone, every member of this Mission, must practice this – meditation on point A and cleaning of point B. If they don’t do it, we will not assume responsibility for them, plain and simple.
Now, why is this information coming now? Some of you might question me, but it is because a lot of literature that Babuji had written is coming out now only because nobody translated it. We had it in our archives and now slowly it is coming out. Though he has written it in very subtle ways, being what he was he gives hints, he will not insist. But when you read that letter written by Babuji under the orders of Lalaji Saheb, it says to make sure that everyone does it and there is a different method for sisters also how to do it. Now people think that it is only to regulate the sensual tendencies. In those days when it was ordered, Lalaji said that sisters did not need it because they did not suffer from this disease, but I think the world has changed so much that we all need it.
Second, it is not only for sensual desires. If you read carefully in Towards Infinity, Babuji talks about awakening refinement of the superconscious state. To the extent these points are cleaned, to that extent your superconscious state will improve. So you may not be suffering with sensual tendencies – perhaps you are fortunate ones – but then there is a greater advantage in practising meditation on point A and cleaning of point B with a rigid discipline, so that our superconscious state can improve. And superconsciousness is one of the ways of evolution. We have been meditating and cleaning, but by not doing this you will be bereft of the benefits of the superconscious state.
So that is just to motivate all so that when you go back you encourage all the abhyasis to practice meditation on point A at bedtime and cleaning of point B just before starting the morning meditation. Or, if they wake up early, before running to the bathroom, if there is no pressure, clean point B and then finish your bathroom activities and come back for meditation.
Now someone has said, “I was not able to read the technique of developing vairagya,” so I am going to read it today. Though we took that topic in great detail yesterday, it will also help some of our brothers and sisters who came today. “
Babuji writes, ‘The purpose of this note is to explain the process of regulating and diverting the flow of thoughts that emanate from the chit lake in order to create vairagya or detachment in an abhyasi. It is essential to understand and trace the current of thoughts as outlined in the diagram above to really know the spiritual condition of an abhyasi.’”
Now how does this flow help us in understanding the spiritual condition? As I said yesterday, the flow descends from the chit lake into the heart for normal people or subnormal people, but in spiritual people this flow will be towards the atma chakra. So when you see the intensity of flow towards the second point, the atma chakra, it means this person has a better spiritual condition. The chit lake is denoted as Z, which is here at the top of the crown, but you can take the entire field here as the chit lake. The flow of thought energy comes from point and diverts into two channels at point X. One channel enters the lower region of the heart and the other the centre of atma. Generally the flow to the lower region of the heart is of greater force than that of the flow towards the atma centre.
“One can read the condition of an abhyasi by simply looking at the current flowing into the lower region of the heart marked L. In those who are spiritually advanced, the stronger flow towards L gradually dwindles away and the flow becomes stronger towards the atma centre or chakra. The preceptor who transmits to the abhyasi may also draw the flow running to area L to X. It is to draw the flow running to the lower area of the heart towards X to make it flow into the atma chakra.”
We are diverting towards the right; at the same time you think that it is moving away from the heart and going towards the atma.
“This should be done very mildly and force should not be used. The result will be that the abhyasi will soon begin to develop detachment, vairagya, and he will find that he is very easily and smoothly proceeding on. I have tried this method many times and have not failed even once in giving the full benefit of the process to the abhyasi.”
I love this confidence. I wish we all could say that.
“Its immediate effect is that an abhyasi becomes almost thoughtless. This is a natural process. Also, when we transmit, generally we transmit from heart to heart. But at times, try transmitting from the atma chakra and see what happens to the abhyasi.”
Transmit from point 2 straight to the heart and let whatever has to happen, happen. Read it. Devote one sitting to the abhyasi just to do that and see how different it is from transmitting from heart to heart.
“Preceptors should not try to stop the thoughts of the abhyasi except when he finds that these thoughts are meddling with the preceptors’ work. I found in a few cases that the abhyasis’ minds were having great restlessness with the result that I found some wavering in my heart as well. In such cases I tried to remove the restlessness first by the process of cleaning. With this method, I was able to regulate the thoughts arising in the minds of abhyasis. All preceptors can do this. This method of diverting the thought energy towards the atma chakra may be tried even for new abhyasis in the very first sitting.”
This is something I think most of us were not aware of, because we misunderstood this is thought energy, which is different from transmission, which is different from the thing that descends from the top. It is also different from inserting the light in the second sitting. It is good to understand the diversion of the thought energy descending from the chit lake directly to the heart, giving it a flow towards the atma chakra.
“If anybody wants to search out the ocean in the human body it is the chit lake, that point marked Z. The vibrations there are regulated by nature. It has no concern with agnya chakra. The agnya chakra has a different purpose [the sixth point]. It distributes the power and energy for the consumption in the human organism while only the chit lake works on the thought process. The chit lake appears in different colours in accordance with the level of development of a person. People who have made some progress have a medium grey colour in their chit lake and this progressively turns into a ruby colour in the case of a perfect human being.
“Dr K.C. Varadachari of Tirupati discovered this ruby colour through his observations and he is entirely correct. Now what is the part of the teacher here [preceptor]? He should try to regulate it in a way that its rise and fall may disappear and a state of moderation or samyavasthha may prevail. If it is corrected, then the energy that is distributing to the lower region of the heart will have a divine smell or divine fragrance and it will work well in the worldly affairs and is charged with divinity.
“Before attempting the above method regarding the chit lake, it should be cleaned as thoroughly as possible.”
The method he has given is how to divert; but Babuji warns that we must do the thorough cleaning of the whole system.
“Of course cleaning will take place. Take some time and it is not easy to clean the point instantly. If the preceptor finds any difficulty he may first clean the right toe of the foot and then take up the chit late in the second turn.”
So what is the best method of cleaning the toe? Only the limb method. You are not going to straight away pay attention to the toe and say, “It is getting cleaned.” No, then something will fall back again.
“Difficulties are there, but the will-force of the preceptor clears all the thorns and thistles in the way of the various centres. The front part of the nail relates directly to the chit lake and there is no harm in cleaning the entire toe.
“Ram Chandra.”
This is your big toe on the right foot: the bottom part is connected with the Centre and the front part is connected with the chit lake.
Yes brother?
Q: You said you can transmit directly from heart to heart, but do we have to do that in the second stage or can you do that also from the beginning?
KDP: From the beginning. Heart to heart is always there. That is our normal thing. Oh, you mean the atma. It is okay, after some time you can do it. After two or three months, a month, or even the following week you can do it after starting the abhyasi.
Q: Daaji, you talked about removing the first samskara in the first sitting. I want to know what is the first samskara.
KDP: In our system, we work from the inside out. You remove the first dirt, and the first dirt is the first samskara that we formed after the creation came into being. The first samskara was the reason for creating many more samskaras later. If you remove the foundation, then the things that are built upon the foundation of the first samskara will collapse in due course.
Q: I understand that part, but I want to know, what is the first samskara? KDP: Oh, what is the first samskara? It is fear.
Q: Thank you very much. KDP: You are welcome.
Q: “Including the chit lake” – is it the will directly; is it using the will or thought?
KDP: Will and thought together. You can do it directly also. I don’t mean thinking that directly, but just paying attention that this area is getting cleaned and before you do that take up the toe first. We do not want to do magical things right away. Let’s do it little by little. First clean the toe, maybe call that person again: “I would like to give you a sitting tomorrow. Please come.” Slowly you can do it. Babuji said “Mildly”. We can be very mild, very slow. Anyway we are lazy people.
Q: Daaji, you talked about the limb cleaning method, connecting to the Source. Can you describe this again? Where else can we use that cleaning?
KDP: Whenever you see the need for cleaning. Q: For any point? KDP: For any point, it does not matter. This is to remove the grossness from all nooks and corners of your body. That means all chakras will be included.
Q: So you connect it to the Source?
KDP: The connection is already there. We have to make the thought that the mind, which is connected with the Absolute, is receiving the currents from above, which are descending into the heart. From the heart you give the direction of three minutes this way, three minutes this way, etc., with intervening pauses, and then repeat it if you have to repeat it. This I use a lot when I have to prepare preceptors, before giving the final sitting. It thoroughly removes the grossness from their whole system. Of course we do this when we clean the intervening spaces also, so the person can easily reach brahmanda mandal. A lot of things are involved in the preparation of a preceptor, but whether we are preparing or not, we are making abhyasis better than a preceptor. So that attitude should be there from the beginning. We are presenting something like Lalaji did. He prepared Babuji in such a way as to surpass himself, so he could present him to God. So likewise, we should prepare our abhyasis to be better than ourselves, and present them to the Master. Otherwise we are not good teachers.
Q: So your recommendation is that now during the regular individual sittings we use this limb method.
KDP: It has always been recommended. It is nothing new. Nothing was taken out.
Q: Wasn’t it that this was recommended only when we felt a lot of grossness?
KDP: So that still continues, when there is a need of thorough cleaning of an abhyasi. Don’t you think all need it?
Q: Yesterday I was just reviewing the pamphlet you had given, which referred back to Towards Infinity. And on the same knots, in the description Babuji has written there are sounds at every knot: the higher the knots the sweeter the sound. You did not describe that yesterday when we talked about vibrations and colours. Could you add some more to it?
KDP: We will come to that level later when we are more refined to listen to sounds.
Q: Daaji could you please explain the limb method?
KDP: I just shared it with you. Okay. And to answer the question about the sounds, it is not the way we hear sound. If you refer to Truth Eternal where Lalaji talks about sound, he means vibrations. And when he talks of shabda, that it is the ultimate vibration, it means transmission. Then it will be clearer. The intensity of vibration felt at each point will be different. As you go higher, it will be lesser and lesser and lesser. And at the highest you will not feel anything to the extent that it will look so dreary as Babuji puts it. Where have I come? The Central Region is a dreary land, because there is nothing to be felt. There is no sound there. There is no vibration there.
