Welcome to the Admissions and Enrollment page!
The Admissions and Enrollment Branch strives to make application cycle a fun experience! They consist of Leaders from the Recruitment Branch who are specialized in handling application grading, orientations, and interviews. They work to ensure that all applicants remain on track with admissions and assist them with any resources they need to enter the program. This branch also handles application deferrals and application withdrawals.
Each quarter, COPE Health Scholars Programs considers more applications than it can admit. The goal of the program’s admissions review process is to identify applicants who demonstrate maturity, professionalism, and passion for the health care field while ensuring readiness for patient and staff interaction.

Step 1: Application on SurveyMonkey Apply
Complete your COPE Health Scholar Application. By clicking the link below, you will be re-directed to the COPE Health Scholar website where you will have detailed instructions as to how to complete the application. Indicate St. Joseph Hospital of Orange as your site of preference and we will subsequently review your application.

REMEMBER: We aren’t looking for writers for the New York Times, we’re looking for students wanting to learn and grow as future health care professionals.
Scholars must be accepted to, enrolled in or graduated from an accredited college or university and must be at least 18 years old by the application deadline for the entering cohort they wish to enroll in. This information must be listed in the scholar’s application. We do not have any pre-requisite course requirements.
Each applicant’s file will be reviewed individually and holistically to assess his or her suitability for participation as a Scholar. Materials reviewed will include the application, all supplemental essays and any other information requested by the COPE Health Scholars programs office. A select group of individuals will be invited for an interview. The COPE Health Scholars programs team will screen application materials for the interview decision.
St. Joseph Hospital of Orange is currently accepting applications to their Winter Term until October 12th 2022! Interviews and clearance will be in September-October 2022, Training dates will be in November 2022, and Start Date will be in December 2022. Please review our year-round Health Scholar program. Step 2: Attend an Orientation/Interview Session
Invited applicants will interview with members of the COPE Health Scholars programs team, including Scholar Leadership team members. Prior to the start of the interview, interviewees will be provided with an orientation on the basics of the interview process, Scholar role and general scope of service, and key dates/deadlines. Interviewers will complete a standardized evaluation form for each interviewee that provides clear definitions of qualities to be evaluated. Interviewees will have an opportunity to anonymously evaluate the interview process and provide feedback about the quality of the interview experience prior to receiving their interview results.
If your application was accepted, you will be able to schedule an orientation and interview session with us. Each applicant will be individually assessed for his/her essential attributes and unique potential to contribute to the Scholars programs. In short, we are looking for competency, dedication to health care, patient-centered focus, integrity, and communication skills. You will receive your interview results within 2 weeks.
Step 3: Attend a Clearance Session
Following your application acceptance and interview, there will be a stage of time where you need to submit your health immunization and other records at our clearance appointments to be compliant with hospital policy. Clearance may be seen as a time consuming process due to the complexity of healthcare systems such as being able to see a provider, understanding the requirements needed, possible cost of immunizations, and figuring out what costs your insurance will cover.
Please note that while you are not required to have all records completed by the time of your appointment, it is to your benefit to collect as many immunization records as possible to stay on track with program enrollment and get confirmation from our team regarding compliance. It is also recommended to use this time to schedule any necessary clinician appointments to complete titers tests, TB tests, etc. Please note that "titers" mean blood tests. You are required to get a blood test for both Hepatitis B surface antibody and Tuberculosis. In order to save time, you can get these tests done together.
Health records or program forms that require a signature must use a wet signature – no electronic signatures are accepted. All copies of health records must include the Scholar’s full name, date(s) and name of the provider(s). The Scholar is responsible for updating and/or completing all health records in a timely manner throughout the duration of their time in the program, as required by the Centers for Disease Control, Department of Public Health and site policy.
*Preferred method of submitting health records and program forms is via CORE ELMS upload and submission. This can be completed by using a scanner, scanner app, or other method to scan the document – no photos of the records may be accepted. Email is not a secure method of submitting health records and will not be accepted.

Step 4: Training Modules
Training will begin with a series of online modules that you MUST complete prior to the in-person training dates. You will receive at least 2 weeks to complete the following modules: Welcome Video, COREELMS Training, Anti-Harassment, Health Scholar / Junior Health Scholar Playlist, Health Scholar Patient Care Competencies Playlist, and SJO Workplace Violence Prevention Module.
Start early as these courses will provide you with the necessary information and resources to be prepared for Training! Please note that it will take about 10-12 hours to complete all the modules, so it is advised that you begin as soon as possible. You will be tested on the material covered in these modules on Training Day 2, so it is imperative that you learn and understand the material thoroughly. Step 5: Attend Training Days
Attend training day 1, 2, and 3. Arrive on time, take diligent notes, and ask questions! Prospective Scholars must complete ALL Training Days to be enrolled in the program. In order to continue in the program and begin your first shift, you must first pass a written exam and practical exam.
Attendance to Training Days is MANDATORY! Failure to arrive to one or more Training Days will result in your exclusion from the program for the upcoming rotation, at which point you may be deferred to attend training at a later date or in a future rotation.
There are no makeup sessions for missed training days. Scholars are expected to attend all three training days in full and must not arrive late. In the event the Scholar knows they will be unable to attend any of the training days, he/she must reapply for another session.
