ओंकारेश्वर मंदिर के सांयकालीन पुजारी पं.श्री डंकेश्वर दिक्षित ने बताया कि 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में यह एकमात्र ज्योतिर्लिगं है जहां महादेव शयन करने आते हैं। भगवान शिव प्रतिदिन तीनों लोकों में भ्रमण के पश्चात यहां आकर विश्राम करते हैं। भक्तगण एवं तीर्थयात्री विशेष रूप से शयन दर्शन के लिए यहां आते हैं। भोलेनाथ के साथ यहां माता पार्वती भी रहती हैं और रोज रात में यहां चौसर-पांसे खेलते हैं। यहां प्रतिदिन रात्री 8.30 बजे शयन आरती की जाती है, शयन आरती के बाद ज्योतिर्लिंग के सामने रोज चौसर-पांसे की बिसात सजाई जाती है जो रात्रि 9.00 से 9.30 तक दर्शन के लिये खुले रखे जाते है। रात्री में गर्भगृह में भगवान भोलेनाथ और पार्वती माता चौसर—पांसे खेलते है।

Pt. Shri Dankeshwar Dixit, the evening Pujari of the Omkareshwar temple, told that this is the only Jyotirlingam among the 12 Jyotirlingas where Mahadev comes to sleep. Lord Shiva comes here every day after visiting the three worlds and resting here. Devotees and pilgrims especially come here for shayan darshan. Mata Parvati also lives here with Bholenath and plays Chausar-dices here every night. There is a Shayan aarti here at 8.30 am every night, after the Shayan aarti, the chausar-dice board is decorated in front of the Jyotirlinga. Which are kept open for viewing from 9.00 to 9.30 at night. Lord Bholenath and Parvati Mata Chaucer-dances play in the Garbhgraha in the night.
