Okay Media Folk,
Based on some of the concerns floating, I’ve come up with something to free up…but . constrain my students thinking.
Here’s a challenge I am laying down for my students who are at a loose end. They have all completed their planning, but much of that is now to be trashed. So, I am encouraging them to step off the cliff and do something completely new to them. I’ve laid down the gauntlet whereby films need to be inspired by and refernce the works of the Avante Guarde / Experimental filmmakers of the 1920’s. Students don’t have to do it, but it is there as an option and models a way of thinking to approach any film idea.
DOGMA-2020…an MPA ATAR response to COVID19
Light and dark must be explored through juxtaposition of all aesthetic elements below:
SPACE – framing, composition, depth of field, orientation
LIGHTING – brightness, quality, colour, direction, contrast
COLOUR – hue, saturation, contrast
TIME – pace, rhythm, continuity, repetition, orientation
MOTION – fluidity, stability, energy, direction
AUDIO – pitch, tone, level, resonance, layering, diegetic, non diegetic
I will film, record and edit something by the start of Term 2 to model this approach.
The more they tick the box to all of this criteria and evidence thoughtful experimentation of technique gets a big thumbs up from me.
If the students don’t like this then I will encourage them to construct their own DOGMA2020 approach.
I’ll leave the interpretation of ‘sophisticated’ to the marker. 😊
