Hi everyone,
I have a request that relates to the Media teaching and learning environment – I am hoping to gauge the kinds of Media facilities your schools are equipped with, in order to compare with what we have here at JTC and to inform some possible future adjustments. Hoping for a better idea of current standards!
If you are willing to share, I’d love to know the following kinds of information:
Details of your Media classroom setups/layouts (sketches would be great too!)
Any other Media facilities your school has (e.g. photography booths, broadcasting studios, etc)
Solutions in place for managing/maintaining Media equipment, including borrowing procedures, and whether you have any technicians employed
Pictures of all of the above (only if you are willing to share!)
A brief run-down of the main pro’s and con’s of your setup(s)
What we currently have, for reference, is the following (please see attached classroom layout):
1x Media lab (29 workstations), 4 rows in a tiered setup, with an aisle down the middle
Media resource cupboard, attached to Media lab (literally just an average-sized walk-in cupboard)
Library booking system; students borrow directly from me at the end of a school day, and return equipment to the Library (4 minute walk) – I then have to go and collect from the Library
Feel free to email me directly if you have any issues with replying to the entire group for whatever reason 😊
Thanks so much in advance!
Kind regards,
Robert Di Giallonardo

Howdy All,
I should state straight off the bat that I am well aware of my own privilege in this area! Iona has just built a new learning centre and have significantly upgraded the Media resources – they have been very kind to the subject! – so we now have the following:
1x Media lab (26 workstations), in a split practical/written set-up (26 spaces for written work, 26 spaces for editing) – photo in link
Media Store-room/walk-in cupboard (photo attached – the one with the Vertigo poster inside) – photo in link
Broadcast Studio and Control Room – control room runs on Blackmagic - Studio contains two studio cameras and we are at some stage getting a green cyclorama in front of where the current black-out curtains are located (photo attached). We have a lighting desk, CCU, vision switcher, and sound desk in the control room. – photos in link
1x Rodecaster Pro Podcasting Kit and microphones/stands (no photo for this)
We use REFTAB for bookings, which is great once you have it set up. We have a media technician who works a half day on Monday morning and Friday afternoon to manage student bookings.

I do plan on running some PDs and workshops to make the most of this amazing stuff once I’ve had time to get it all running smoothly!
Kind Regards,

Hello team media,
Loving the conversation looking at room spaces. We have spent a long time building and organising our spaces to work effectively for our department. We have 3 distinct media spaces spread across our very large campus. One space is for Middle school year 7-8 (not pictured). One space is shared between middle school and lower secondary year 7-10 (this is the older arts area) and the third newest space is middle to upper secondary years 9-12. In addition to this, near the older media room we also have a dedicated photography room (not pictured) that has a small studio and a working darkroom and film processing room.
We are not provided any admin or tech support to maintain or organise our spaces.
Photos are on the attached google drive link. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1_0x2kU3zoAzZMUef2-1Ki1DU92sMiS3y?usp=sharing
In our new building, mainly used for upper school Media and Design, and year 9-10 media we have 2 main media rooms, a shared studio space, shared storeroom and 2 sound booths:
Img3602 we have two small sound booths like this one. Not finished yet but still great spaces.
Img3603, 3604, 3605,3606,3607 show the upper secondary store room. This has dual door access shared between the two main classrooms img3608 and 3611. We work very hard to maintain and keep this space organised.
The two main classrooms img3608 and 3611. share a central studio space img3609 (the room with the green screen) we can rig this as either a photography/design space or a media space dependant on need and we can raise/lower the blinds to create separation between spaces if needed. Img3612 and 3610 show the dual access through to this space.
In the older Arts building we have one main media room that has the older style control booth spaces.
Img 3614 the main part of the classroom. You can see the glass walls at the back and right hand side connect through into the old control room / editing spaces.
Img3616 and 3617 are the storeroom
Img3619 shows one of the editing labs attached to the main classroom,
Img 3620 and 3621 show the two smaller control rooms. IMG3621 was originally intended to be the bio box into the auditorium – however you can’t actually see the stage from this space – so not the best design actually.
