Energy

Energy comes in many different forms. But the two main forms, or groups, of energy are "kinetic energy" and "stored energy." Examples of both groups of energy are all around us.

Forms of Energy

Energy is many different forms of matter. It can transform into other forms of energy. Explore these introductory videos. Ask questions and wonder about the information you learn and how you can create an experiment to learn more! Tim and Moby want you to help them!. Don't just watch the movies. Play the games. Take the quiz. Make a movie. Make a map. Write about it. Teach others. Use your Digital Learning Access Log In for access.

"Have you ever considered how much use we make of our planet? From the air we breathe to the timber we use for shelter to the minerals we refine into metals, life just wouldn’t be livable without our natural resources. But what are the consequences of overuse? Join Tim and Moby in this BrainPOP movie as they look into these valuable commodities: what defines them, where they come from, and how we put them to use. You’ll find out about the difference between renewable and nonrenewable resources, and why we need to conserve both!"

Conserving Natural Resources

Read this webpage from National Geographic on conservation. Look at the images. Think about how important it is to be wise about how we interact with the world around us. We can only survive if we use the natural resources around us in a way that does not waste them. When you are finished, think about developing a project to raise awareness and improve your habits for conserving natural resources!

Energy Efficiency

"Using energy wisely also means being energy efficient. We use energy every day at home, school, work, and even when we're playing. By reducing our energy use, we are helping to conserve the world's resources - like natural gas, oil and water - and saving money on our utility bills. Best of all, by using energy wisely we can cut down on pollutants in the air and water, making a better environment for everyone. Think about what would happen if there wasn't enough energy: There would be no light to turn on when it got dark, there would not be any hot water for the shower or heat for your house in the winter, no gas or oil to drive the car, so there are lots of reasons we should reduce our energy use."
