Be a scientist! Look closely at the details you see on each plant. What do you notice?
Study each plant. Doing this will help you identify each plant. Next tell you friend to find a plant. Give your friend some clues. Did your friend find the plant?
Here are some clues to look for on each plant:
Shape of the leaves
Color of the leaves
Designs on the leaves
Flowers on the plant
English Language Learners use a custom plant species field guide to identify various plants in The South Bronx Schoolyard Garden and Outdoor Classroom. They are even making their own field guides for the garden. Watch as these students become botanists!
Visit a new place to take pictures of each plant. Then find out the names of the plants, and other information. Create a book with pictures of the plant, and the information you learn. Remember to write the information in your own words! You could even do this for the different plants you see on your walk to school! :)
