Standing cycling technique

A recent study published in the Med Sci Sport Exerc demonstrated that a mixed group of cyclists and non-cyclists utilise mechanical energy produced by their centre of mass in order to increase crank power when external load is high and cadence is low. This result is not surprising given cyclists naturally move their torso and upper body substantially when cycling off the saddle. It is important to highlight though that it is unclear to date how much of this technique is inherent or learnt from practice. This is important because cycling drills could involve exercises to improve off the saddle technique as a way to maximise performance when external load is high.
