We published a paper recently looking at core muscle engagement, particularly looking at transverse abdominis, external and internal oblique during a range of exercises. We also explored implications in terms of the stretch of the linea alba, which is a measure of potential abdominal diastisis. As expected, exercises such as the lateral plank required greater engagement from the external oblique but there was no difference in terms of stretch of the linea alba. These results suggest that given the transverse abdominis was similarly engaged, there is no major implication from the types of exercises in terms of greater elongation of the linea alba.
