Impact in different surfaces during running

A recent study compared impact related outcomes when running in different surfaces. Various outcomes were analysed and no difference was observed between surfaces.  This is in line with another study that observed  no significant differences in peak accelerations between concrete, synthetic and natural turff.  However, heart rate and oxygen uptake were higher for harder surfaces, which indicates that the musculoskeletal system is more challenged in these conditions to attempt attenuating the loads in the body.
