Motion Performance Indicators

Motion Performance Indicators (MPIs) have been recently introduced by manufacturer of wearables. These devices track movements of the body and have been proposed to help predict performance. In cycling, these metrics have gained traction but our study was the first to demonstrate that only some of these MPIs have a moderate relationship with cycling performance. Reduced ranges of motion for the upper leg and foot seem to be associated with greater power production in professional cyclists. We still need though to validate these measures to gain clearer understanding on how to use them for pedalling technique interventions.
