A study looking at the effects from changing saddle position (closer vs. further away from the pedals) on recumbent cycling provided some clarity on implications for rehabilitation. Seat positions eliciting knee flexion angles of 25., 35 and 45 deg of flexion did not result in differences in knee extensor or abductor moments. These findings suggest that a relatively wide range of settings for the seat can be used in recumbent cycling without major implications in terms of knee loads. However, future studies assessing the implications of such changes in clinical populations are needed.
