Angus McBride is an ex-prospector and the father of Judge J.B. McBride. He has run the New Texas Star, the town newspaper of Fort Kerium, ever since being crippled by his former mining partner Tex Hex.
Angus is known as aspiring, noble, good-tempered, understanding, selfless, mature, cooperative, bold, rational, inspirational, dignified, educated, accountable, no-nonsense, gentlemanly, unswerving, sincere, meticulous, courteous, benevolent, righteous, instructive, determined, encouraging, fatherly, attentive, trusting, honorable, efficient, reasonable, protective, austere, patient and assertive.
Angus Jonas McBride had two children together with his wife Eileen. He convinced his mining partner Tex to travel to New Texas in search of Kerium, the rarest element in the universe. To remind him of his young daughter, J.B. Angus always carried a small holographic recording of her with him. Angus proved to be right about the richness of Kerium on the otherwize barren planet, but did not expect Tex to strike a deal with a diminutive Prairie Person called Scuzz to use Scuzz's people as a slave work force. Tex betrayed McBride and chose to take all the Kerium for himself and Scuzz. Leaving McBride tied and gagged on a cliff, the rumbling of their mining cruiser as it lifted off caused the cliff to colapse and McBride to tumble down, losing the power of both his legs.
The mystic Shaman found Mcbride and arranged for a Galactic Rescue Ship to pick him up. When they did the great wealth of the planet New Texas, Kerium, was revealed to the galaxy. His legs could not be healed, but McBride was given a hover chair to move around in. Having lost his claim to the kerium mines of New Texas, McBride began a new life as a newspaperman.
Doctor "Doc" Benjamin Clayton (formerly Sam Perkins) was Fort Kerium's Afro-American doctor. He was a frequent ally to BraveStarr, but seemed to have some pacifist ideals - he found it confusing that the Krangs' elderly doctor could also be willing to kill people and ultimately convinced him to switch sides.
Handlebar is a male Rigellian and the owner of the Trading Post, a hub of the community which serves the function of a general store, hotel and saloon/bar in Fort Kerium on New Texas.
A former space pirate, Handlebar is ashamed of his criminal past, has served his time and is now completely a reformed character and legitimate businessman with pride in his establishment. His strength and intimidating presence tend to keep patrons in line.
Handlebar provides useful information gleaned from local gossip in the saloon to law officers Marshal BraveStarr, Thirty/Thirty and Deputy Fuzz, and even on occasion joins their posse when extra strength is needed.
Handlebar was a hulking, 14-ton, green-skinned bartender with a bright orange handlebar moustache and a Brooklyn accent. And he was also known as hard-working, aspiring, no-nonsense, dignified, level-headed, educated, bold, altruistic, rational, humble, accountable, nurturing, dependable, lion-hearted, efficient, benevolent, affectionate and respectful.
He was formerly known as "Cooky Nix Blix" a space pirate from the Rigel star system. After serving time in prison, Nix moved to New Texas to start over with a nice, honest life. On one occasion he nearly betrayed BraveStarr after being blackmailed by someone who threatened to tell everyone about him being a pirate. But Handlebar's personal ethics stopped himself from doing so. He run a Trading Post and Bar, in the town square of Fort Kerium as a meeting place.
He mostly serves BraveStarr and Thirty/Thirty a popular drink called sweetwater in his bar, as they sit and discuss the moral lesson learned in that day's episode although he does engage in a fight with a mechanical steer named Rampage in one episode and wins. If faced with trouble in his bar he uses the serving trays as throwing weapons with pinpoint accuracy and considerable power.
Some background to his race, the Rigelians is given in the episode Sherlock Holmes in the 23rd Century - Part 1, in which we meet another Rigelian, Dr. Wt'sn, who looks quite similar to Handlebar and a Rigelian criminal who appears another episode. Rigel is described by Sherlock Holmes as "A large planet, with high gravity. A hot, intensely bright sun, a thick soupy atmosphere and a strong, handsome native population."
Wild Child is known as witty, insecure, likable, determined, courteous, hard-working, imaginative, laid-back and dependable.
As a baby, he wandered into the desert. His parents searched everywhere for months, but finally left New Texas, destination unkown. The baby was found in the Badlands by Dingoes and raised as one of them. He became known as "Wild Child" and developed special powers not unlike his Dingo 'family', including the ability to leap great heights and to recognize different people and species by scent. (Wild Child) Like all Dingoes, Wild Child was given a special medicine at a young age by the Dingo Llama to make him imune against the illness of the Fever Flower.
Wild Child's existence was first noticed by old Zeke when he was fleeing from a pack of Dingoes. This prompted Marshal BraveStarr, Thirty/Thirty and Judge J.B. McBride to head into the Badlands. Fleeing after a skirmish with a pack of Dingoes, Wild Child's Turbo-Mule crashed and he was injured and left behind by his pack (as was their way). When Judge J.B. expressed kindness for the child, Wild Child began to mellow towards her and referring to her as 'Good Lady'.
The Dingoes' trail led through a tunnel and straigh towards The Lost City, where they were confronted by the last of the Old Ones, Zarko the Hunter, a mysterious figure with whom Wild Child was already familiar. Zarko intended to hunt down all the intruders except for Wild Child, because of his young age and brave nature. During a tense confrontation BraveStarr finally managed to convince Zarko that violence was not the way to live. Zarko decided to take care of Wild Child and soon adopted him.
Wild Child attended school in Fort Kerium, where he found himself being teased about his Dingo upbringing by classmates Brian and Clorg. But when the entire town population save BraveStarr and Wild Child was struck down by the pollen of the Fever Flower, they had to plead with the Dingo Llama to grant them his medicine.
Judy was one of the children in Miss Jenny's class who went to school in Fort Kerium. She wore spectacles and usually had a bored expression on her face. Her preferred sitting place was in the back of the classroom.
Wimble was a young Praire Person was was part of the Lost Tribe of Prairie People led by Mayor Gup. Wimble's father had traveled far away, and according to Prairie People Law, Wimble was allowed to chose a new, temporary parent until his real parents returned.
Having witnessed how Marshal BraveStarr and Thirty/Thirty fought against Howler and his Leaper Riders, Wimble chose Thirty/Thirty to be his new parent.
Although Thirty/Thirty was hesitant at first, he soon agreed to look after Wimble and began showing him how to use his lever action freeze cannon, Sara Jane. BraveStarr scolded his partner for teaching about firearms. This made Thirty/Thirty decide to enroll Wimble in Miss Jenny's school at Fort Kerium.
Miss Jenny decided to take Wimble and several of his new classmates on a field trip. But two Dingoes, Barker and Goldtooth, sabotaged the school But-Jet, causing it to crash land in the Far Desert, near Howler's territory.
Having crossed the desert several times before, Wimble was best qualified to take the lead and show his teacher and classmates the shortest way to the Prairie People village, which he knew to be 30 Echo-Miles. Along the way, Wimble began to gain his classmates' respect as he showed them how to find water in water cactus pods and which berries were poisonous.
When the Leaper Riders attacked, Wimple used his flying bolos to bring down one of the Leapers. Soon Thirty/Thirty arrived to defend the school party, followed by BraveStarr and Deputy Fuzz. After the Dingoes were defeated, even the class two most judgemental children, Brian and Judy agreed that they shouldn't have looked down upon Wimble just because he was different. And Marshal BraveStarr agreed that Thirty/Thirty did a pretty good job of being a parent.
