A socialator is a 4,000 yahren old profession sanctified by the "elders", wherein a person obliges the desires of others. In other words, it's a euphemism for prostitute or "space hooker". Those who practice this profession are scorned by members of the Otori Sect. Socialators are "a caste whose function was to entertain and give pleasure to others" and were "skilled in the music and the dance, and could speak with intelligence on nearly any subject". I.e., they would be more akin to geishas and courtesans than modern prostitutes.
Cassiopeia was a socialator prior to the Cylon sneak attack on the Colonies
"Colonial Warrior" is a universal term to describe the highly-skilled Viper pilots and soldiers of the Colonial military. Warriors are extremely versatile in many combat roles, and are well regarded for extremely unconventional thinking for special missions.
Attrition, both from the destruction of the Colonies as well as the pursuit of the Cylons forces the Colonial military to recruit within the Fleet. Refugees who are between the ages of 16 and 46 yahren and not presently serving in a highly critical civilian occupation are encouraged to contact Galactica recruitment about applying for Warrior training .
Warriors wear a beige-colored uniform with a red-brown jacket with a laser pistol as the standard issue sidearm. On some occasions, they may also wear a small cape.
Pilot candidates are trained on Galactica's flight training rooms, which simulate Viper flight characteristics and allow virtual combat training against a Cylon Raider.
Shuttle pilots are not Warriors, but can be trained and promoted to this status
A contact sport with elements of football and basketball from the Colonies, played with two teams of two players. Teams are typically color-coded (Red and Blue).
The objective of the game is to score points by getting their ball in the other team's ball opening, either throwing the ball (referred to as a "sphere") into the opening or "dunking" it in at close proximity. Triad is played in a triangular court. Some contact is permitted between the players within the rules.
A card game. Pyramid is a high-risk chancery game played with hexagonal cards; a Colonial version of poker. Starbuck is about to win a large pot when an alert interrupts the game (Saga of a Star World). Starbuck and Boomer play Pyramid with Boxey in the barracks (with jellybeans as the stakes instead of cubits) to help keep him occupied when Apollo fails to report back from a patrol. Boxey wins a large pot by having a "full pyramid" .

In order of superiority:
Full pyramid,
Four pyramids,
Three pyramids.
A yahren is a Colonial measurement of time, analogous to an Earth year. The plural form is usually the same as the singular, "yahren", although "yahrens" is also used for the Colonial equivalent of "years".
The Thousand-Yahren War is the primary conflict between the Cylon Empire and an intergalactic federation including the Twelve Colonies of Man.
This conflict began when the Colonies aided the Hasari in taking back "their nation" from the Cylons. The exact nature of the Hasari and their relationship to the Colonies. remains unknown.
The Fleet moves seemingly only at sublight speeds. There are inferences to FTL use though, even if sporadic and uncertain.
Lightspeed is the term for a Colonial battlestar accelerating to the speed of light or faster. Galactica is one of the few ships in the rag-tag Fleet that have lightspeed ability, so normally the battlestar moves no faster than the slowest ship in the Fleet during its exodus from the destroyed Twelve Colonies. Even just the mention of leaving star systems (possibly mentioned inaccurately as 'galaxies') and showing up in other star systems within short periods of time, lead one to suspect that some form of superluminal propulsion is employed.
Commander Cain brings Pegasus to lightspeed in order to outflank Baltar's attack force, though Cain earlier commented that such a maneuver would result in using half of Pegasus's fuel.
Commander Adama orders Colonel Tigh to take Galactica to lightspeed, despite Tigh's objections that suggest that it had been some time since the battlestar was ordered to accelerate that fast.
Baltar and Lucifer have a conversation in which Lucifer states that the Cylons could easily catch up to the slowly moving rag-tag Fleet if they used lightspeed.
Starbuck's Viper "Recon 1" could be inferred to be able attain this lightspeed as well, as it has to drop to sub-light when it detects a freighter and fighter.
Other than these oblique references, there is nothing that would substantiate how the ships achieve this form of propulsion other than by just accelerating until they reach their top speed.
Tylium is a material used to fuel the propulsion systems of Colonial and Cylon spacecraft. Three forms are known of: tylium ore, refined tylium precursor, and refined tylium (the fuel itself).
Typically, tylium ore is mined from asteroids and is apparently not found on the Twelve Colonies natively. Large tylium ore deposits can keep fleets fueled for years. In its raw form tylium is a relatively fine, powdery substance that is liquefied and refined by refinery ships. Care needs to be taken to not introduce impurities into the fuel, which can cause engine malfunctions
A hectar is defined as 9 million miles, or 1/10 of a parsec. The plural form is "hectares". The unit sectar may be a corruption or permutation of hectar.
A Parsec is defined as 90 million miles or 150 million kilometers, the distance from the Earth to the Sun. It is also the equivalent of 10 hectars.
A micron is a Colonial measurement of time and analogous to an Earth split second (specifically, 0.6 seconds). Its plural form is "microns". There are one hundred (100) microns, as opposed to sixty (60) Earth seconds, in one (1) centons.
A centon is a Colonial measurement of time. The term is analogous to a minute. The plural form is "centons."One (1) centon is equal to one hundred (100) microns.
A daggit is a canine-like animal used as a domesticated pet, watch animal, or tracker. No daggits survive the Cylon holocaust. Boxey loses his daggit, Muffit, to the destruction on Caprica. A robotic counterpart similar in appearance to a daggit, named Muffit II is built by Dr. Wilker and presented to Boxey .Like a real daggit, the new Muffit proves its bravery and dedication to protecting humans during a dangerous fire aboard Galactica
Di-ethene is a storm condition occuring on Arcta. Di-ethene storms are dangerous to humans, particularly upon reaching "death point"–where the air turns to liquid. A side effect of being in a di-ethene storm is that it leaves humans dehydrated.
Hydronic mushies, or more commonly known as mushies, is a nutritious foodstuff that is multi-colored and typically cube-shaped. Mushies are instrumental in saving the lives of numerous crew members, including Boomer, Athena and Boxey, who are stranded in Galactica's rejuvenation center after a suicidal Cylon attack crippled the ship. Muffit, who had just recently been trained by Boxey to "sniff" out mushies, is employed to negotiate the convoluted maze of ventilation ducts, delivering lifemasks to the crew and rescuing a fallen firefighter from the flames. In the 1978 writer's guide for the series, they are noted to be a "very tasty health food.
In the Original Series, the fumarello is a fairly large cigar, similar to a parejo. Typically seen near or in Starbuck's mouth, much to the dismay of the Cylons and their chest armor.
Pluton poisoning is a form of radiation that breaks down the proteins in food, thus rendering it a useless, incompatible foodstuff. Typically, this is the result of fallout from pluton bombs. Pluton poisoning affects a bulk of the food supply after the Fleet makes their exodus from the now-Cylon-held Twelve Colonies. Jolly detects the poisoning.
A lupus is a carnivorous animal, similar to a wolf, usually undomesticated. There were lupus (plural: lupi) on Equellus. Puppis kills a lupus with a numo.
An oviner is a rancher. A majority of the people that Apollo encounters on Equellus are oviners, which Lacerta exacts "tribute" from during his reign of terror, thanks to the Cylon, Red-Eye.
Cubits are a form of government-regulated currency used throughout the Twelve Colonies in both the Original Series and Re-imagined Series. Cubits were normally seen in coin form. Frequently, viewers see cubits wagered in pyramid games, usually while Starbuck is playing. Cubits are much the same in terms of appearance from the Original Series. However, it is revealed that they were made out of auric, the Colonial term for gold.
