Sometimes weird things happen to people. Ask Jake. He might tell you about the night he and his friends saw the strange light in the sky. He may even tell you what happened when they realized the "light" was only a plane... from another planet. Here's where Jake's story gets a little weird. It's where they're told that the human race is under attack, and given the chance to fight back. Now Jake, Rachel, Cassie, Tobias, and Marco have the power to morph into any animal they choose. And they must use that power to outsmart an evil greater than anything that world has ever seen.

The infestation continues as Visser Three tries to figure out which one is the real Tom. Rachel, still inside Tobias as a Yeerk, is getting very mad because she does not want to stay in the Yeerk morph any longer. Meanwhile, Cassie and Ax are rapidly approaching the infestation pier. Ax only has minutes left before he has to demorph, and he's next in line for the new Yeerk. Cassie is helpless as a human, but she can't morph in front of the Controllers. Marco is the only one who can do anything to help all the other Animorphs, he finds out that Jake has morphed Tom, and he destroys all the special Yeerks, Jake (in Tom morph) reacts to the screams of the Yeerks and run in to check on them, while Visser Three and his Human Controllers take away the real Tom. Everyone hears the alarms, Cassie and Ax escape while Ax morphs back to an Andalite in a hidden place. Marco morphs a cockroach and dodges boulders crashing to the ground, to get out, as Jake as Tom is also trying to get out. As all the Animorphs escape, Jake wasn’t out yet, so they had to search for him. The real Tom escaped, and Cassie found Jake.Based on The Encounter. The Animorphs witness a bizarre child with superhuman strength, who they soon discover is Erek, a member of the android race known as the Chee. Ax lands a job at a new electronics store. The store owner pushes Ax to sell, sell, sell for their huge cell phone promotion. When Tom buys two: one for himself and another for his latest crush, Melissa Chapman, Jake and Marco get a little suspicious. What's with this sudden cell-phone craze? They follow Tom to investigate the situation... and are horrified to discover what Ax is really selling. Narrated by Ax.

The Animorphs decide that they've earned a break and plan to go to the spring dance. Cassie tries to urge Jake to help her stop a cosmetics factory's experiments with animals, but it ends up being a disaster. After the remaining Animorphs come to the rescue, Marco is caught on tape demorphing.

The individual who taped Marco demorphing, Harold Nesbit, is about to reveal his finding for profit. Jake and Marco try to personally steal the tape, but are unsuccessful, and the group must find the tape and stop it from broadcasting. Meanwhile, Visser Three is using a TV executive morph to broadcast a new show that will make human infestation easier, and Ax is behaving strangely.

Tobias follows the trail of hawk images being left around town, but is shocked by what he finds. Meanwhile, when Marco notices a suspicious looking construction worker hanging around school, he investigates and discovers that friends and the rest of their classmates are in huge danger. Before he can tell anyone, however, Marco finds himself trapped, unbeknowst to his friends, who are now arriving at the dance.
