Leroy Green Jr. A.K.A. “Bruce” Leroy is a Skilled Martial Artist in Berry Gordy’s: The Last Dragon. He is the love interest of Laura Charles.
Leroy Green was training to be a master of martial arts. His goal was to reach the infamous “Final Level” where a fighter would be able to emit an aura called “The Glow.” He trained along with his master to the point where he was nearly close to reaching the final level. His master tell him that reaching the final level is a journey that he must take alone, and after teaching Leroy everything to the point where he has nothing left to teach him he congratulated him as he no longer considers himself his master. However his Master told him about a friend named “Sum Dum Goy” and the he would be able to help out Leroy more. Leroy leaves as his master wishes him luck.
Upon watching a karate movie in the theaters, he is approached by a Kung-fu gang led by a man named Sho’nuff who considers himself to be the “Shogun of Harlem.” Hearing about Leroy in stories told by people, which he claims to be sick of, he challenges Leroy to a fight but he got sidetracked by other moviegoers who wanted him to be silent to watch the movie. Sho’nuff defeated all who challenged him but was able to see Leroy leave, he promised to take Leroy down so he could be claimed as “The Master.”
Leroy soon walked down the streets to come across a crowd waiting outside they were all waiting on a woman who walked out by the name of Laura Charles. She was a singer at a TV show host in a show called 7th Heaven, where she would show viewers the hottest music videos that were currently out. Leroy was able to make eye contact with her before she left. However he would see her in distress when a group of guys were ready to abduct her. Leroy was able to fight them off and the guys left the scene empty-handed. Leroy saving Laura was able to get her a taxi as Laura was able to thank him before he left off.
While teaching lessons at a dojo, which his dear friend Johnny was attending as well, Sho’nuff and his gang crashed the lessons demanding to fight Leroy. Outnumbered and not ready to truly fight him, Leroy bowed to him. When they wanted Leroy to bow again Johnny stepped in to stop it until Sho’nuff’s right hand man Beast ordered to kill Johnny. When Johnny was caught by Beast, Leroy was given an ultimatum; either he kissed Sho’nuff‘s shoes or he’d kill his best friend. Leroy couldn’t bring harm nor death to anyone so he went down to kiss them only to be kicked in the face by Sho’nuff. Sho’nuff and his gang leaves promptly satisfied but Sho’nuff was still determined to have Leroy fight him.
While walking with his brother Richard Green to the 7th Heaven studio Leroy saw Laura with a guy that was really not part of her tv crew. With Laura abducted, Leroy followed the van to the building to come across a guy who ordered his guys to abduct Laura named Eddie Arkadian. Eddie demanded for Laura to see the music video of his girlfriend Angela which she declined which led him to abduct her. Leroy fought all of them off and saved Laura for the second time. When he goes to his family’s restaurant, Daddy Green’s Pizzeria. He finds out that Sho’nuff and his gang already ransacked the place demanding to fight him. It was also known to Richard that Leroy was afraid of him. After being scolded by his brother, Leroy vigorously trained out of anger as he blames himself for letting Sho’nuff cause havoc to him and his friends and family.
On his continued quest to find Sum Dum Goy he finds the place where he could be in, but the people who worked at the place did now allow him in. It wasn’t until his trip with Laura to the studio, where Laura showed him Bruce Lee clips where one where he was in disguise, that he needed to disguise himself to infiltrate. He did so by disguising himself as a pizza delivery guy of his family’s restaurant, however even with his disguise he couldn’t see Sum Dum Goy. It wasn’t until he was willing to use brute force that the guys came clean about who, but after Leroy soon finding out what, Sum Dum Goy is, which is a computer. He was able to return to his old Master to find out why have he sent him on a quest to find somebody who does not exist. The Master explains that all along Leroy found the answers that would bring him to the final level. He would also tell Leroy there was one place Leroy didn’t look for to find the master before leaving to see his mother in Miami.
Leroy would soon be told by Johnny that Eddie Arkadian has abducted Laura again and has went alone to the studio to confront Eddie. However, he was ambushed by Eddie’s new recruits. It wasn’t until Johnny and Leroy’s dojo students who came to even out the fight. Going to Plan B, Eddie, bringing Laura with him, led Leroy to an abandoned warehouse next door. While trying to find Laura, he once again ran into Sho’nuff, but this time he was prepared to fight him. At first Leroy would seem like he would win against his nemesis, however during midway of the fight, Sho’nuff revealed to Leroy his ability to emit from his hands the Red Glow. Leroy was now losing the fight, Sho’nuff demanded for Leroy to call him the Master especially when he was willing to drown him. As Leroy saw flashing events before his eyes when his head was underwater, he realizes from his master that the one place where he did not look to find the Master was inside himself. Realizing that, he told Sho’nuff that he was the master, and upon reaching the final level, his entire body emitted the Golden Glow. With this ability Leroy successfully defeated Sho’nuff only after mere seconds of defeating him to be held at gunpoint by Eddie. Eddie angered at Leroy ruining his plans, shoots Leroy at point blank only for Leroy to actually catch the bullet with his teeth and was able to subdue Eddie until the cops got him.
Back at 7th Heaven Leroy was able to return to Laura who was happy to see him. Leroy accepted being Laura’s boyfriend as the two was finally able to share a kiss and left the main studio on a lift up to the catwalk.
Laura Charles is the love interest of martial artist and Bruce Lee idolizer, Leroy Green in the 1985 action-comedy musical film, Barry Gordy's The Last Dragon. She was portrayed by the late Denise Matthews, or as she was better known as Vanity.
Laura was a singer and TV personality who was the host of a hit TV show, 7th Heaven. On that show, she would showcase the latest music and would perform herself. One night at her show, she was met by a man named J.J. who wanted desperately to get a music video by, Angela Viracco, the girlfriend of his boss, Edward "Eddie" Arkadian. She refused and then went on to do her show before she told him to call a cop.
Later on, she was almost kidnapped by Eddie's goons who were going to take her to see him, but then Leroy Green, who developed a crush on her since he first saw her on television, defended her honor and she immediately fell for him because he showed great courage and skill in battle. As she was thanking him, he vanished. She picked up this belt buckle he wore as a medallion.
She would later be captured by Eddie's people just as Leroy was too late to save her. However, he tracked her down. As he was tracking her down, Eddie forced her to watch this tacky music video that his girlfriend, Angela made. Laura would refuse to show it on her show because it wasn't right for her audience. Angela understood and was more than prepared to let it go, but Eddie was angry at the rejection and it was implied he was going to have her roughed-up...possibly killed. But then Leroy dressed in a black ninja uniform broke into Eddie's office and took out his henchmen. Leroy left Eddie a warning to leave her be and then they left for her apartment. Laura would at her apartment give him back that belt buckle and would offer to make love to him. But as he was inexperienced with women, he left but gave her his respects.
Laura felt like she was completely unsafe and she wanted Leroy close. She wanted him as her bodyguard, but he had a rough time before because his family was bullied by his enemy, Sho'nuff aka The Shogun of Harlem, and his thugs in their place of business and he refused in a stern manner. Laura would leave upset.
Leroy would later on return to her and apologize. He still could not be her bodyguard, but he felt he was rude and wanted to make amends. She would then give him a ride to the studio where she films 7th Heaven. She had a surprise for him. She showed him a music video to clips from Bruce Lee's movie, Fists of Fury. They would later on kiss, but at the chagrin of Richie Green, Leroy's younger brother. Leroy would then have to leave because he needed to see a master, one he would later on find out doesn't exist and Laura was left alone in the studio. But then Eddie Arkadian showed up with his thugs and kidnap Laura as Richie would return to find Laura captured and demands that they "take their hands off his woman." They would capture him too.
Leroy would get the message that Eddie kidnapped her and would go to rescue her alone. He would find her and even at his martial arts skill level, he was outnumbered. As he was being beaten up with Laura watching she saw that Leroy had help from his students at his dojo. As a fierce battle erupted, Eddie took Laura out of the studio to an abandoned building across the street. Leroy would battle through more skilled thugs to get to Laura. But then, Sho'nuff appeared. They got into a burly brawl. A fight that ultimately he would win. But then Eddie shot him at the horror of Laura and Richie just as Richie was untying her. But then it was discovered that Leroy caught the bullet with his teeth and he subdued Eddie and left him, Sho'nuff, and the other thugs to be arrested. Laura was then brought back to the studio for a show later on that night.
As Laura was hosting the show, she seemed depressed, but she invited Leroy's students for their part in her rescue. But then Leroy himself appeared and brought a bouquets of flower for her. He yelled out "CAN YOU SHOW ME SOME MOVES!!" implying he was ready for sex and everyone laughed. They were together, and even Richie was happy for his brother and showed them support when he recognized him as "The Master." Laura and Leroy would leave the stage. It's assumed he might had become her bodyguard and lover from that point on.
Adding to Leroy's problems is an unwanted rivalry with the self-proclaimed "Shogun of Harlem" and fellow martial artist Sho'nuff. He wants to challenge and beat Leroy in a fight to prove he's the true "Master," and he later teams with arcade mogul Eddie to force Leroy into a confrontation.
