The gameplay of the server, unlike past systems, rotates around the Resistance and Combine fighting for control of Sector-61, spanning a total of 5 maps.
Gameplay starts at the Midpoint, and progresses either in the Resistance's advantage or disadvantage based on the losing faction's Reserves. The campaign is won when a faction wins a battle in their enemy's Base, returning back to the Midpoint and starting anew. The map resets back to the Midpoint on a weekly basis, alongide the weekly reset for resources and faction upgrades.
The entire system for the rotation of the server's map is represented above. Starting at the Midpoint, the map is switched to the Outpost of the losing faction, followed by the Base should it happen again. Base maps are typically biased towards their faction, as being in that map signifies a loosing streak. Once a Base battle is won, the map returns to the Midpoint.
Currently, the maps in rotation are as follows:
Resistance Base: cvr_whiteforest
Resistance Outpost: cvr_forest_apocalypse
Midpoint: cvr_outercanals
Combine Outpost: cvr_ineu_valley
Combine Base: cvr_pripyat
The map changes in accordance to the Reserves. The Reserves represents who is winning the battle for the map. It is located above the map (M).
For example, if Combine Reserves run out, the Resistance is deemed victorious and the map is switched in the Combine's disfavour.
Reserves start out filled and can only be decreased as the game plays out. A faction's reserves are lowered progressively for the amount of capture points the enemy is holding, as well as each time a member of that faction dies.
The focus of the game is thus to capture and hold as many points as possible, and for as long as possible, with the hopes of winning by attrition. The winning faction is awarded with 50k Resources, yet there is no penalty for losing a map battle.
Each map is labelled with different areas/zones. The Civilian spawn is inside the Green borders. The Resistance Borders are colored Orange and the Combine Borders are colored Blue. Resistance members are not allowed to go inside the Combine Base nor shoot any enemies while they're inside their base borders. There are some exceptions to this such as Spectre Unit infiltrations and Recon scouting.
Rebel base has textscreens marked with different zones. Each zone restricts entry access to specific ranks and divisions.
Zone 1: Unrestricted Access (Civilians, no Combine)
Zone 2: Resistance Only
Zone 3: Officers and Handpicked
Zone 4: MP and Leadership
Motor Pool: R&D, Recon, MP and Leadership
Each map has a few capture points that can be captured by both factions. Capturing point allows a faction to gain more resource points, until they reach the cap of 400,000. Squad leaders are able to spawn in fully captured points, as well as any rebel when the server has 40 or less players. Any Resistance member caught capturing prohibited points will be punished.
Capture points are also tied into the map progression, as the less points a faction controls, the faster their Reserves are depleted.
