Winter Relief Drive – "Uttap '24"
Introduction:
For those of us with a roof over our heads, the true "bite" of a harsh winter often remains a distant thought. However, for those living below the poverty line, winter is a seasonal battle for survival. To address this, the Katwa Rainbow Welfare Society initiated a blanket and winter garment distribution drive to support the marginalized communities in and around Katwa.
Activity Overview:
The initiative culminated in a final distribution event held at a village near Baranda. Our team members gathered to provide essential warmth and nutrition to families facing the brunt of the cold wave.
Items Distributed:
Warmth: Polo blankets, traditional black blankets, and shawls/wrappers.
Nutrition: Fresh apples and cakes for the children.
Hygiene: Sanitary napkins for women to promote menstrual health and dignity.
Community Support & Resource Mobilization:
The success of this drive was made possible through the collective generosity of the residents of Katwa.
Resources were gathered through:
Direct Donations: Blankets contributed by local citizens.
Fundraising: Financial contributions from well-wishers allowed the society to purchase additional high-quality blankets.
Acknowledgments:
We extend our deepest gratitude to those who went above and beyond:
Sangeeta Das: For her generous donation of apples for the children.
Sudip Hui: For donating blankets and joining us on the field with cakes for the little ones.
Transport Team: Our "Transport Kakus," whose logistical support was the backbone of this operation.
Team Dedication:
Our President, Swapan Majumdar, and his wife Bijoy Lakshmi Majumdar graced the event with their presence, motivating the team. We also recognize our hardworking field members who spent the day ensuring a smooth distribution:
Subhadip Ghosh, Ayan Ghosh, Archita Dutta, Pallabi Sarkar, Suhana Islam, Writabrata Das, Ratnamala Saha, Soumyadipta Ghosh, Arko Biswas, and our newest member, Tanmoy Bhattacharya.
While we missed members who could not attend due to distance—Prosun Kundu, Koushik Halder, Purbasha Singha Roy, Sabyasachi Chattopadhyay, Moumita Batabyal, and Bikram Maitra—their constant support from afar was deeply felt.
Conclusion:
Planning an event from a distance is one thing, but witnessing the smiles of the recipients on the field is a completely different experience. This drive was not just about distributing clothes; it was about spreading warmth and humanity. As our motto suggests, let the colors of kindness continue to spread through everyone's lives.
