It was the month of May 2021, Covid-19 crisis was spiraling out of control and had an unprecedented impact on the health system. Hospitals were running out of beds, people were searching desperately for life-saving drugs and oxygen, blood banks were in shortage of blood, and the health care and administrative personnel were fighting an invisible war against a completely unknown opponent. Medical and administrative systems were overloaded and on the brink of collapse.
At that time, similar to other equally minded groups of people, members of BHC came together and with the support of their near and dear ones from the family and friends, lent hands to the people in need. The fund was minimal but with the indomitable spirit of the members, BHC tried to reach every nook of the society. By providing information about the oxygen cylinder providers, vacant beds in the nearby hospitals, and organizing blood donors, members of the BHC tried to assist and assure people 24/7. BHC provided logistic support to the health care and administrative personnel by distributing masks, hand sanitizers, oximeters, etc. BHC also worked proudly with other organizations such as Red Volunteers, Bloodmates, and Rare Blood Group all over West Bengal to overcome the critical situation.
Like every war, this war with Covid alleviated with time by sheer determination and all-round efforts from the health care, and administrative personnel, and the situation improved. Not only a part of the mission of BHC was completed but also gave huge motivation and encouragement to stand beside our society and to do more work.
