PRIVACY POLICY — COLORNOTE

This Privacy Policy applies to ColorNote ("Application"), a color-coded note-taking and checklist app.
SHORT VERSION
ColorNote doesn't require an account. Your notes, checklists, and settings live in your browser's local storage — nothing personal is sent to us to use the app.
1. WHAT THIS APP DOES
ColorNote lets you create text notes and checklists, organize them by color and pin, and optionally lock individual notes with a PIN. You can back up your notes to a downloadable file and restore from a backup. Creating new text or list notes may require unlocking, which can be done by choosing to watch a short rewarded video that unlocks it for 30 minutes.
2. INFORMATION STORED BY THE APP
The following is stored locally in your browser (via localStorage) so it persists across visits, until you clear it yourself:
Your notes and checklists, including their content, color, and pinned/locked status
A one-way hash of any PIN you set on a note — your actual PIN is never stored
App settings and preferences
The following is kept only in memory or refreshed periodically while the app is open, and is not permanently saved:
Whether note creation is temporarily unlocked (unlocks last 30 minutes after watching an ad)
None of this data — including the content of your notes — is sent to us or to any server we operate. It stays on your device unless you choose to export it yourself.
3. BACKUP & EXPORT
ColorNote lets you manually export your notes as a .json backup file, saved to your own device or wherever you choose to store it (e.g. cloud storage you control). We have no access to backup files you create, and restoring from a backup happens entirely on your device.
4. AUTOMATICALLY COLLECTED INFORMATION
Like most web and mobile apps, basic technical information may be collected automatically when you use ColorNote, including:
IP address
Device model and operating system
App/browser usage statistics
Crash reports
Date and time of use
Features accessed within the app
ColorNote does not collect precise location information and does not access your device's camera or microphone.
5. PERSONAL INFORMATION & ACCOUNTS
ColorNote does not require you to create an account or sign in. Any information you enter — including note content and PINs — is provided voluntarily by you, stored (or hashed, in the case of PINs) only on your device, and never transmitted to us.
6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
ColorNote may use third-party services that collect information under their own privacy policies, including:
Google Play Services
Google AdMob
The rewarded-video "Watch Ad to Unlock" flow used to unlock note creation is served through an ad provider such as AdMob, which may collect information necessary to serve ads, prevent fraud, and measure ad performance.
7. DATA SHARING
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Information may be disclosed only:
When required by law
To comply with legal obligations
To protect the rights, safety, or property of users or the app provider
To trusted service providers acting on our behalf (e.g. ad or analytics providers)
8. DATA RETENTION
Your notes, checklists, and settings remain in your browser's local storage until you delete them yourself or clear your browser data — they are not automatically erased. Automatically collected technical information (Section 4) may be retained only as long as necessary for analytics, security, legal compliance, and service improvement.
9. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
ColorNote is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover personal information from a child has been collected, it will be deleted as soon as reasonably possible.
10. SECURITY
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to help protect information handled by the app, including hashing note PINs rather than storing them in plain text. No method of electronic storage or internet transmission is completely secure. Because your data lives in local browser storage, we recommend keeping your device and browser secure and creating backups of important notes.
11. YOUR CHOICES
You can delete individual notes, remove PIN locks, or export your notes for safekeeping at any time within the app. Clearing your browser's local storage or uninstalling the app will remove all saved notes and settings. You can also stop all data collection by uninstalling the app (on mobile) or simply no longer visiting it (on web).
12. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be posted here with a revised Effective Date. Continued use of ColorNote after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
13. YOUR CONSENT
By using ColorNote, you consent to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.
