This Privacy Policy applies to Akyat // Philippine Peaks ("Application"), a hiking guide and climb journal covering mountains and trails in the Philippines.
SHORT VERSION
Akyat doesn't require an account. Your saved trails, climb history, gear checklist, and journal entries live in your browser's local storage — nothing personal is sent to us to use the app.
1. WHAT THIS APP DOES
Akyat is a trail guide for Philippine mountains, letting you browse peaks, save favorites, mark trails as climbed, check off packing/gear items, log journal entries for your climbs (including dates, companions, and notes), and earn badges based on your activity. Some content, such as trail highlights and the full packing checklist, may require unlocking, which can be done by choosing to watch a short rewarded video that unlocks it for 30 minutes.
2. INFORMATION STORED BY THE APP
The following is stored locally in your browser (via localStorage) so it persists across visits, until you clear it yourself:
Trails you've saved or marked as climbed
Your gear checklist selections and any custom gear items you add
Journal entries you create, including dates, companion names, and notes you write
The following is stored only for your current browser session (via sessionStorage) and clears automatically when the session ends:
Your unlocked-content status (unlocks last 30 minutes after watching an ad)
None of this data — including journal entries and companion names — is sent to us or to any server we operate. It stays on your device.
3. AUTOMATICALLY COLLECTED INFORMATION
Like most web and mobile apps, basic technical information may be collected automatically when you use Akyat, including:
IP address
Device model and operating system
App/browser usage statistics
Crash reports
Date and time of use
Features and trails accessed within the app
Akyat does not collect precise GPS or real-time location information — trail and peak content is static reference material, not live tracking.
4. PERSONAL INFORMATION & ACCOUNTS
Akyat does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information to browse trails or keep a journal. Any names or notes you enter — such as climb companions — are provided voluntarily by you, stored only on your device, and never transmitted to us.
5. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
Akyat may use third-party services that collect information under their own privacy policies, including:
Google Play Services
Google AdMob
The rewarded-video "Watch to Unlock" flow used to unlock trail highlights and the full packing checklist is served through an ad provider such as AdMob, which may collect information necessary to serve ads, prevent fraud, and measure ad performance.
6. DATA SHARING
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Information may be disclosed only:
When required by law
To comply with legal obligations
To protect the rights, safety, or property of users or the app provider
To trusted service providers acting on our behalf (e.g. ad or analytics providers)
7. DATA RETENTION
Your saved trails, climb history, gear checklist, and journal entries remain in your browser's local storage until you delete them yourself or clear your browser data — they are not automatically erased. Unlock status is session-based and clears when the session ends. Automatically collected technical information (Section 3) may be retained only as long as necessary for analytics, security, legal compliance, and service improvement.
8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Akyat is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover personal information from a child has been collected, it will be deleted as soon as reasonably possible.
9. SECURITY
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to help protect information handled by the app. No method of electronic storage or internet transmission is completely secure.
10. YOUR CHOICES
You can delete individual journal entries, unsave trails, or reset your gear checklist at any time within the app. Clearing your browser's local storage or uninstalling the app will remove all saved data. You can also stop all data collection by uninstalling the app (on mobile) or simply no longer visiting it (on web).
11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be posted here with a revised Effective Date. Continued use of Akyat after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
12. YOUR CONSENT
By using Akyat, you consent to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.
