Grayson and John were normal brothers. As kids, they often did play fighting with each other, though as they grow up they became much more distant with each other thus making it more awkward for them to even talk to each other. John tries to prevent this by teasing Grayson whenever he talks to him, though most of the time Grayson is not having it, or will ignore him. There is not much to tell about them other than them just moving to their own homes and never seeing each other often.

Their parents however, is a whole different story.

Their Dad was an extremely smart scientist, making stuff like an Alternate Universe machine. This science job got him to be extremely obsessed with it, loosing sleep and time with his family. Due to this, the Mom divorced the Dad when John was recently born after realized that her husband barely even cares about his own family, causing her to also take care of John and Grayson the entirety of their childhood. She did not have that much trouble on it, and the brothers eventually moved out with decent money in their hands.

Meanwhile, their dad was busy mixing chemicals in his science lab hoping he can at least get something useful out of it. There, he made the Goop Potion, a potion that is literally filled with black goop. He first tested it on a rat he found on the street, and the results were very interesting. The rat acted very violent on him as as soon as he released it to roam around his room to get the other rat placed on the other side of the room. However, the rat went for him instead and he got bit by the rat. After that, he eventually stomps on the rat, killing it and brushing off the bite.

Little did he know, the rat had infected him with a fever. Even though that happened, he was still determined to work in his science projects, even though he was incredibly dizzy and was vomiting a lot. One day, he eventually faints to the floor due to it. In the alternate machine. The machine detects the movement and made him completely locked inside there, causing him to travel to another universe that was gloomy and kind of black. He eventually wakes up, realizing what has happened after going outside of the machine.

Due to the rat having the 'goop' thing inside and biting the dad, he starts transforming into a person covered in black goop everywhere in his body. However, due to the other disease, the rat bite fever, he faints again on the ground longer this time and dies, leaving his body to be undiscovered as it is in another universe. The machine eventually went back to Real Life as one of the buttons were pressed by the other rat earlier, who had went to the machine as well, causing it to return back.

The mom, who still sometimes calls her husband, realized he had stopped answering calls from her. She eventually drives to his science lab and realizes that he was not there or anywhere near on it. She files a report to the police about it several days later, and the dad is declared a missing person.
