Pre Riya: While in high school, he surrounded himself with a small group of friends that he could trust.  Although he seemed very outgoing, he tended to actually be more on the shy side.  He had a lot of empathy, always trying to help those in need and be there for who he cared about.

Post Riya: A messy shell of who he used to be.  He was never good with dealing with his own emotions, and Riya didn't make it any better.  After marriage, he began lashing out.  He took his anger out on others, and resorted to very unhealthy coping mechanisms.  Deep down though, he was hurting.  He didn't want to cause harm, but he saw himself as a vile monster that did, so that only perpetuated his negative emotions.  He became trapped in a vicious cycle.
