Inpatient Medicine (R1)

MEDICINE (INPATIENT)

Brief rotation overview: Inpatient on MSW. Expect 3 weeks of days and 1 week of nights

Initial point of contact (i.e. coordinator, senior resident, etc.): See Amion for who your senior resident will be and touch base beforehand. They make the monthly schedule so they are the ones to tell if you have any preferences for days off.

Expected duty hours/shifts: Usually arrive 5:30- (NLT) 6. Turnover with night team is at 0600. Adjust arrival as needed based on personal speed and census. Typically each intern carries 1-3 patients with occasionally more based on census and staffing with night shifts/clinic.

Useful resources (e.g. web resources, books, etc.): Uptodate; IDSA guidelines, Pocket medicine

Other useful tips / How to succeed: Best to not make hard plans for immediately after work due to possibility of late admits. Be flexible and help however able. Make the most of medicine and have fun. There is a short answer exam that is open resource. It’s not too bad.
