Leave Policy

As a reminder here are our leave guidelines as you consider your leave dates…

-          PGY-1s & PGY-2s: 3 weeks per academic year (must take 2 separated “full weeks” + 1 other full week OR  a “split week”)

-           PGY-3s: 4 weeks per academic year (must take 2 “full weeks” + 2 other full weeks OR 2 “split weeks”)

-          o   “Full week” = 5 weekdays (i.e. Sat-Sun, or Wed-Tues, etc)

-          o   “Split week” = one 4-day weekend (Th-Sun or Sat-Tues) + one 5-day weekend (W-Sun or Sat-Wed)

-          Leave can only be used on outpatient rotations

-          For 4-week rotations you may miss 5 weekdays of the rotation

-          For 2-week rotations you may miss 3 weekdays of the rotation

-          Per ACGME you are REQUIRED to take at least 2 weeks of leave

-           WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO USE ALL OF YOUR LEAVE! J 

-          If you have a weekend on an outpatient month where you don’t want to take leave, but you DON’T WANT to be on call you can request a “Non-Duty” Weekend. You can request up to ONE Non-Duty Weekend per outpatient block, but only formal LEAVE can be GUARANTEED as non-call or protected time. We will do our best to accommodate these requests when making the call schedule. To do this just shoot us both an email with your requested weekend.
