5Ws

 

Who:

Residents on the following rotations:

PGY1: Surgery and ER

PGY2: Population Health and Geriatrics

PGY3: Scholarship and FP3

 

What:

Half day training, 3 cases/session

 

When:

4th Monday of the rotation block in the morning, 0830-1100

 

Where:

Simulation lab on the 3rd deck

Can access via South elevators to the 3rd deck – door is immediately to the right off the elevators OR access around the corner from MIU nurses station

Note that the doors remain locked for security purposes of the equipment, you will need to knock when you arrive for training and sim staff will let you in

 

Why:

Opportunity for residents to practice managing acute patient scenarios in a safe environment

Goals are to familiarize you with:

-          Common patient scenarios you may encounter on inpatient/call

-          ALS, PALS algorithms

-          Hands on skills needed to care for an acutely ill patient including high quality CPR, airway adjuncts, crash cart, defibrillator

-          Local hospital resources and how to get the help you need

-          Effective team leadership/team communication in a code scenario
