Another Goodbye
Another goodbye
without au revoir, or auf Wiedersehen,
testifying to the inevitable
as the years stroll forward.
A part of time now stands still;
my words feel helpless.
When my timer runs down,
by sudden stop or slow slide,
what words might be said?
Maybe a compassionate sieve
will sift out my faults and follies
(or tell them with amusing anecdotes?),
leaving the best of my life and loves.
But what would I say?
I’ll have nothing to add –
my inner self will be silent
at my own goodbye.
