As an exercise in self-expression, I began doing some writing early in 2004 with a few pieces of prose. Then "Aeolian Laments" became a cycle of verses with musical references. Over time, I seem to have found greater expressiveness in verses, and so more and more of my writing is in that form.
June 2010:
I have a published poem! There had been a call for submissions to an anthology "Celebrating Poets over 70" by the McMaster Centre for Gerontological Studies and Tower Poetry Society, Hamilton, Ontario. I submitted the triptych Seasons, and had one, "Autumn", accepted for publication. The book Celebrating Poets over 70 is now sold on amazon. The poems are no longer accessible on the original site, which had included my accepted poem, along with a brief bio.
[I could actually claim to have been published before - that was Aeolian Laments in the biannual Journal put together by BOLLI (Brandeis Osher Lifelong Learning Institute).
In February 2019 I joined a newly-formed Poetry Writing Group at BOLLI, shortly thereafter taking the role of coordinator until October 2023. It was a pleasure to present and discuss our work with fellow writers, and very stimulating for my own writing. After moving to the senior living community Lasell Village in May 2022, I took part in courses called Poetry Writing Workshop to, as before, stimulate my own writing. And I've contributed to the periodical The Villager, and to poetry readings.
April 2026:
I recently assembled and designed a 68-page chapbook (with some photographs) called "Conversations with Myself", and had it printed by OnPress in December 2025. It contains selections from my approximately twenty years of writing, and became a gift to folks who I thought would appreciate it.
Now also seems like a good time to take a rest from writing. The "Conversations With Myself" have become both a title and a metaphor of something that too often feels missing: the pleasure of sharing.
