One More Sleep
From the chaos of nothing,
there slowly emerged
that greatest miracle,
a new consciousness:
the mystery of me.
As each day ends and weariness reigns,
we let consciousness fade.
Time passes unmeasured;
adventures play without our assent.
Though we do not decide
if we leave or we stay,
we’re always returned to
the mystery of me.
We often were placed
in a strange twisted world:
we cannot find whatever we’re seeking;
can’t get there, can’t get back,
all efforts taking us farther away.
Could this last forever, last without end?
To our grateful relief we’re granted release
and once more returned to
the mystery of me.
One final day,
though we do not decide
when our presence is done,
our consciousness fades …
