Minutes
1. One apology for absence - Peter Gordon
2.The adoption of the 2021 minutes were agreed
3. Matters arising. The only matter arising was the possibilty of a new Elsdon Metcalfe trophy due to the lack of space for engraving future winners.
Apparently there is plenty of space for approx a dozen names -so no problem for 10 or so years !! Glenys Midgley had looked at a possible replacement. Thanks Glenys.
4.2022 League review.- It was good to get a full season in after half a season last year.At least we played and it set us up for a full set of matches this year.Congratulations to Bishop Monkton who won a closely fought contest with Leyburn.Unfortunately Dishforth withdrew at the last moment
and with Easingwold withdrawing earlier we had a lot of byes throughout
the season.
5.2022 Elsdon Metcalfe review,
21 teams took part. The semis and final were played at Thirsk as usual. The quality of the games were extremely high as is often the case here on Thirsks'super green.
The semifinals were fought out between teams from Thirsk and Harrogate
resulting in Harrogate final with Mick Metson and Norman Jackson coming out on top
Well done Mick and Norman and many thanks to Malcolm Hartley/Thirsk for giving us such a good surface to bowl on and a constant supply of tea/coffee and biscuits !
6.Financial report -We started the year with £208.65 in the bank. Our income, courtesy of the Elsdon Metcalfe ,was £42 and the expenses were £24 for EM trophies and £12 for engraving-giving a positive balance of £6 which means we now have £214.65 in the bank which will be transferred to the new chairman.
7. 2023 Teams and Fixtures
With both Easingwold and Dishforth unable to join us next season-we have 8 teams as last year. However as we have had good notice of Club teams this year-we are able to start on May 12th and finish a full season without any byes on 11 th August followed by a Winners v the Rest on 18th August
Thank you Thirsk for your hospitality for this meeting
8.Notices of Motion.
Thirsk proposed that we start at 1.45 and play for one on the first two ends
without any trials ends.Half the teams agreed with this and the other half wanted trial ends unless the weather was very wet or hot !
The major reason for Thirsk wanting to start early with one on the first 2 ends was due to heavy traffic in the Thirsk area on race days.
A compromise was reached with agreement that we start matches with trial ends at 1.30 leading to a 1.45 start. If the weather is very wet/very hot then it was agreed that the one shot on the first 2 ends should be agreed between the 2 teams.
9.Date of 2023 meeting 24 November
