At Thirsk Athletic Sports and Social Club
Those present -
Barbara Hardy Bedale
Glenys Midgley Bedale
Basil Birchall Bishop Monkton
Pete Darbyshire Bishop Monkton
Andrew Wilkinson Dishforth
Kay Gordon Harrogate
Peter Gordon (Chair) Harrogate
Hazel Derby Leyburn
Peter Walker Leyburn
Margaret Dale Masham
Mavis Jennings Masham
Derek Kirby Northallerton
Malcolm Hartley Thirsk
The Chair, Peter Gordon, welcomed everyone to the meeting and
thanked them for coming.
Minutes
1. There were no apologies for absence.
2. The adoption of the 2019 Minutes was proposed by Hazel Derby and
seconded by Pete Darbyshire.
3. Matters Arising. The only matter arising was the question of a new
trophy for the Elsdon Metcalfe trophy. The current position is that, as
there is space for only one, maybe two further entries on the trophy,
it is time to seriously consider a replacement. Glenys volunteered
to take this further via a trophy shop contact she has and will report
back to the Chair whenever she has more information.
4. 2021 League Review. Although we had to make some changes to the
'Bateson' playing format due to ongoing uncertainty over Covid-19, the
League still took place, and the Chairman thanked everyone for their
support in making this happen. He also congratulated league winners
Bedale on their fine achievement.
5. Elsdon Metcalfe. We had 22 entries this year culminating in a win for
Pete Darbyshire and David Chapman of Bishop Monkton. The Chair
thanked Thirsk for, once again, hosting the finals afternoon, and, in
particular, Malcolm and Judith Bish for ensuring everything went
smoothly.
6. Financial Report. The cash balance held in 2019 was reported
incorrectly in that year's minutes as £165.65. It should have read
£191.65. Since then we have had an income of £44 through the
Elsdon Metcalfe Trophy and expenses of £27 for ED trophies and
engraving. This leaves a current balance of £208.65. Although it was
agreed that, once again, subs need not be paid, the cost of a
replacement, fully engraved Elsdon Metcalfe trophy, may mean subs
will have to be reinstated for the 2023 season.
7. 2022 Teams and Fixtures. Northallerton have confirmed they will be
rejoining the League next season which will mean a nine-team league
in 2022. Webmaster Basil has already sent out next year's fixture
programme by e-mail, but had hard copies available to pass out at the
meeting. He also confirmed that our old website address is no longer in
use and that the new address is -
https://sites.google.com/view/new-bateson-bowling-league/home
8. Notice of Motion. Harrogate proposed that the League winners host
the Winners vs The Rest finale to the season. This would replace the
the current rota system. The proposal was unanimously passed.
9. Date of Next Meeting - Friday 18th November 2022.
