Eric Bateson Retirement League
Minutes of AGM held on 16th November 2012 at Thirsk Athletic Club
1. Welcome
Chairman Barbara Pickles, welcomed members from all clubs represented in the Bateson League to the meeting.
2. Apologies
Apologies for absence were received from Joyce Walmsley.
3. Minutes of Meeting held on 18th November 2011
The chairman asked if there were any comments on the minutes and all agreed they were a correct record and they were duly signed.
4. Matters Arising
There were no further matters arising.
5. Financial Statement
The Secretary said that the balance shown was now £10 less than shown i.e. £54 .01 as the bill for engraving the Elsdon Metcalfe Trophy had now been presented. It is regrettable that entries for the Trophy were fewer this year,. She proposed that Subscriptions of £4 per club should be collected this year and this was agreed.
6. Appointment of Chairman
Following the rotation already agreed, John Pennock from Easingwold was nominated by Easingwold and elected Chairman for the next two years.
7. Election of Secretary
Sadly no one had come forward to be secretary and after discussion it was agreed that those present should return to their clubs and let their members know that without a secretary the Bateson League could not operate. Please contact the Chairman by January 31st if someone is found to fill this important role. If no-one comes forward then an extraordinary meeting will be called by the Chairman to discuss whether the League can continue.
8. Bateson League Shield
The Chairman, Barbara Pickles, congratulated Thirsk on winning the League after a close finish narrowly beating Bishop Monkton who were the runners up. Dishforth were thanked for hosting the winners v the rest match.
9. Elsdon Metcalfe Trophy
Was won by Basil Birchall and Pat Beecroft from Bishop Monkton who well and truly conquered both the semi finalists earlier in the afternoon and then the runners up who were Graham White and Mike Arkley from Thirsk. The Chaitman thanked Thirsk for once again hosting the matches and the date for the finals next year is 22nd August 1.30pm at Thirsk. Please encourage members to enter.
10. Fixture list
The clubs have received the fixture list for next year.
11. Any Other Business.
a) the winners versus the Rest match was fixed for September 6th at 1.30pm and will be hosted by Northallerton
b) The Chairman and members thanked the secretary for her work over the past 5 years and asked that thanks be passed to George Brewster for arranging the fixture list and looking after the website.
c) It was suggested that perhaps splitting the role of secretary from also having to organise the Elsdon Metcalfe trophy might be helpful in recruiting someone to be the secretary. Derek Kirby from Northallerton offered to look after running the Elsdon Metcalfe Trophy and this was gratefully received and agreed.
d) The chairman closed the meeting and thanked Thirsk for providing the venue and refreshments.
