July 2 - Wed

Transplanted a few  marigold to front circle to see if it will survive

July 4 - Wed

Watered both sides

The gerbera daisy have a great second round of flowers

Having problems growing perennials from seed, except for lupines

July 4 - Fri

Finished all zinnia transplanting in front

Keeping fingers crossed they survive

July 5 - Sat

Prepared for zinnia planting at back

Finished zinnia planting back

cleaned deck of magnolia droppings

In three days the beans and peas have been wiped out by the bunnies in the way back patch

July 6 - Sun

Tied up the veggies and staked the cukes

Couple of chillies are ready. Will leave them to see if they turn red

Three zinnias in front damaged.  Rear still exist.

Looks like all dahlia tubers have sprouted

Deadheaded the daisies t encorage sub shoots

July 8 - Tue

Fertilized the veggies and small plantings using watering cans

Removed old cuke plants and soil and transplanted a solo cuke plant

No more zinnia loss

The deer did get to some of the phlox on the right side - first time even though it was difficult and hidden by daisies

Seeded basil again

Pinched dahlias for the first time.  Seems to be working.

July 13  - Sun

The last few days it is tough to work outside with heat and humidity.  

Evening trying to work after 7 - still very humid

The crab apple and the oak were trimmed of dead wood using a tree trimming service.  Cut down two branches of magnolia to open up sunlight.

The crab apple is half gone.  Looks very sad. Has fire blight.  Needs to be professionally sprayed.  It will not be as robust in the future

July 14 - Mon

First harvest - green chillies

Transplanted one of the dahlias earlier in the week - seems to work.

The gladioli for cutting are sprouting

Deadheaded the evening primrose to see if it rebloom soon.

Mulched zinnias in the back.

The trumpet vine is overwhelming. Tried to tie it back aut not very successful

July 16 - Wed

Tied up the veggies, specially the cukes

Staked the zinnias in the front

Bunnies or someone continues to destroy unprotected zinnias in the back

Raised the plants on the deck

Jul 17 - Thu

Transplanted the eggplants and peppers

Italian beans ready for harvest

July 18 - Fri

Transplanted two more dahlias from seeds

Mulched zinnias in front

July 19- Sat

Transplanted remaining zinnias - replacing eaten ones

Used bird net protection (new design) for them

Installed solar lamps

Tied up veggies and zinnias

July 20 - Sun

Harvested Italian beans and Eggplant

Sprayed copper fungicide on crab apple till 7 feet

Tied up veggies on the side

July 23 - Wed

Hot again after cool two days

Harvested peas - only a small amount. Its over for the season

Looks like Voles are destroying again. Lost one set of Italian beans

Zinnias (yellow) are starting to flower

July 27 - Sun

Zinnias at the back that have been eaten are not recovering well even though they have a good root system

Shasta daisies are almost done

Orange crocosima is blooming now

Lost a couple of beans in the fenced veggie patch due to voles.  First and surprised

Something is eating the bottom half of the pole beans

July 31 - Thu

Finally some relief from the heat

Most vegetables not producing (probably due to heat)

Beans seem done 

Used soaker to spray the crab apple with fungicide.  Did not reach top.  Will hire tree service soon.

Found a free roaming mouse in the fenced veggie patch.

So far caught 6 mice/voles
