Week of May 25

This week 7th grade history students will continue their investigation of ancient Rome. Rome experienced a great many crises during its long history. Its form of government - the republic - while successful for centuries ultimately failed to prevent growing civil unrest. Students will explore how this crises and the rise of powerful leaders ended the Roman republic.

Week of May 18

This week 7th grade history students will continue their investigation of ancient Rome. Rome's form of government - the republic - had a deep influence on later governments including the American system. Students will explore how this governing system developed and how Rome began to grow in power and influence throughout the Italian peninsula.

Week of May 11

This week the students will be starting to learn about ancient Rome. They will start by examining the geography of ancient Rome and explore how this geography affected the development of their civilization. Students will also investigate the mythology Romans used to explain their origins and compare it to what archaeology tells us about the very early history of the Italian peninsula.

Week of May 4th

This week students will be wrapping up the ancient Greece unit by learning about Alexander the Great and his legacy. The assignment this week will focus on preparing students for the final DBQ (Document-Based Question) which will take place at the end of the last unit. Students will be examining primary sources from the time to learn about Alexander and how Greek culture spread throughout the world as a result of his conquests. They will then use these to complete a short writing assignment using the CER (claim, evidence, reasoning) format.

Week of April 6th

This week the students will be starting to learn about ancient Greek civilization. They will start by examining the geography of ancient Greece and explore how the geography affected the development of Greek civilization. Students will also investigate how the Greek participated in a variety of governments. Our exploration of Greek civilization will continue through April.
