6th Global Languages

Week of June 8

German: This week, students will be given their last activities. There will be three "last activities" posted on the google classroom. Should students find they have extra time, full credit will be awarded for any missing assignments made up. Please remember to send an email to indicate that work has been made up and needs to be rechecked. Thank you for all of your hard work!

Week of June 1

German: This week, students will be asked to choose which Duolingo modules they would like to study, the expectation being that they earn 150 XP points, which is equivalent to about 15 minutes of study per day over five days. Students will also be assigned a new type of assignment: Jabbalab. A login and password will be provided. I will ask students for feedback on how this platform works for them as a Remote Learning tool. Our cultural focus this week will be an exploration of how Germany is handling the reopening of schools as restrictions due to the pandemic are lifting. Students will be asked to engage with content I post on the Google classroom, then respond to that content by either writing an analysis in English, creating a video response to share, or signing up for a live conversation with me in small groups. Italian: Students will not be introduced to any new material this week in order to wrap-up for the end of the year. Students will have 1 “enrichment” activity to complete (on a teacher-provided website), and then should utilize the week to complete/re-do and submit/resubmit any work that they have not completed (or completed incorrectly this Trimester in order to earn full credit.

French: Duolingo Assignment: Level up on "Family" vocabulary

Spanish In this final activity Ss will demonstrate how to introduce themselves in Spanish including greetings, goodbyes, and basic questions.

Week of May 25

German: This week, students will be asked to restore their skills on previously assigned Duolingo modules. This just means students will be asked to complete a short review lesson to keep their skills fresh. If a student missed the Duolingo module when it was originally assigned, completing it now will count towards the original, and this assignment. Viel Glueck und viel Spass! Good luck and have fun!

Italian: This week students will be introduced to new vocabulary to practice related to basic expressions and phrases on a teacher-provided website (Duolingo).

French: Study greetings & introductions vocabulary using Quizlet. Complete a Gimkit assignment

Spanish: Presentation - By the end of this lesson students will be able to identify Spanish speaking countries on a map.


Week of May 18

German: Students will take what they learned last week and use it to create a poster displaying foods and drinks they like and dislike. Students may use google slides, google drawing, or hand-draw their work on paper. Students will expand their vocabulary to include animals by completing a Duolingo module. For a cultural focus, students will explore German popular music on our class website, choosing a favorite artist and song. Students will find an English and German copy of the song lyrics online, then use them to create a vocab list of 10 words and/or phrases they learn from the song (students may use google translate and Leo-English German dictionary to help them build a vocab list). On Friday, May 22nd we will have a virtual class using Google Meet - a Gimkit Battle! Students are also asked to check Aspen this week and make up any missing assignments for full credit.

French: Students will complete a Duolingo assignment (earn 75XP)

Italian: This week students will practice, reinforce and expand their knowledge of the vocabulary unit on the “Colors” on a teacher-provided website (Duolingo).

Week of May 11th

German: Students will expand their vocabulary by completing one Duolingo module ("Food"). In order to improve their ability to hear and understand German in meaningful contexts, students will complete three modules of Nico's Weg ("Kein Problem,""Tschuess!" and "Von A bis Z.") We will hold a virtual meet on Friday, May 15th to introduce ourselves in German and learn to ask how we are.

French: Join our Duolingo class and complete your first Duolingo assignment (earn 75XP).

Italian: This week students will practice dialogue-related vocabulary using the teacher-provided website (Quizlet) in order to complete their extension assignment on another teacher-provided website (Gimkit).

Week of May 4th

German: Students will continue to expand their vocabulary by completing the Duolingo module "Accusative." Students will reinforce their understanding of vocabulary learned last week, by watching video clips and completing exercises in response, based on the film Nicos Weg from Deutsche Welle (Hallo!, ich heisse Emma).

Italian: Students will complete a GimKit assignment on the “Dialogo” vocabulary from last week.

French: Post and share your Francophone Country assignment on the Google Doc provided on Google Classroom. Select 4 of your peers' assignments to read and use the Google Doc provided on Google Classroom to report your learning.

Spanish: Presentation - By the end of this lesson students will be able to respond to the question “How are you? And how are they feeling?” in Spanish.

Week of April 27

French: Continue to work on and finish the Francophone Country Google Slides assignment.

Italian: Students will use provided resources (Quizlet and GimKit) in order to practice and learn basic vocabulary related to simple conversations in Italian.

Week of April 13

Italian: Students will use provided resources (YouTube videos and Quizlet) in order to practice and learn Italian colors as well as well as the numbers 0-20.

Spanish: Presentation - Students will work on a variety of greetings.

German: Students will be able to introduce themselves and ask for someone's name, say where they and others are from, and which languages they speak. Students will be introduced to the concept of gender, learning the various words for "the" in German. Students will be able to correctly match common nouns to their gender (der, die, das).

Week of April 6

French: Students will learn the French alphabet and numbers 1-10 by watching Youtube videos and accessing the note sheets provided. They will then create 2 different Flipgrid videos, one showing them counting in French and the other showing them reciting the French alphabet.

Italian: (Listening and Speaking) Students will use provided resources (YouTube video, written chart and audio file) in order to practice and learn the Italian alphabet as well as draw comparisons between the Italian and English alphabets.

German: Students will use Duolingo, Quizlet, and/or Gimkit to memorize basic vocabulary and phrases. In the coming weeks, students will use this vocabulary to create a comic strip and narrate a picture story.

Spanish: Presentation - Students were introduced to Spanish including strategies and techniques using the target language in class.
