The packaged drinking water industry in India has witnessed tremendous growth over the last few years due to increasing health awareness, urbanization, and rising demand for safe drinking water. Consumers today expect bottled water products to meet strict quality and safety standards before reaching the market.

To ensure public health and consumer safety, the Government of India has made BIS Certification for Drinking Water mandatory. Manufacturers cannot legally produce, distribute, or sell packaged drinking water without obtaining the required BIS license and complying with applicable standards.
