The students came looking fabulous today! We flexed a little for picture day today, but managed to have a really fun day full of learning! We missed ya, Ryan!

Science

Miah G. opened us up with prayer and then we celebrated the Aug/Sept birthdays with a crown and a small gift. The gift came in a jar and I invited the other students to write a birthday note on a card during class to put in the birthday jars for Jacob, Mia N., Ava, Abbie, and Avery. They LOVED this. It was beautiful to see how eager the students were to encourage one another and build each other up! I'm excited to celebrate all the birthdays this year! (I will choose one day each month to celebrate the birthdays for that month). Next we read a devotional from How Great Is Our God about how perfectly God placed our Earth in the universe and reflected on how we can trust him as the great designer of our lives as well. We reviewed our reading from Lesson 2 and got out of our seats to act out "rotate" and "revolve". We passed around a model of the earth, moon, sun and seasons and tested out its rotation/revolution. Then, we discussed each layer of the Earth's structure as we put together a diagram to add to our notes. Next week will be our first quiz covering Unit 1. Each student was given a blow up globe to use to review the Memory Work at home. We use it to play "World Ball" in class. You toss it to each other and state the ocean or continent that your right thumb lands on before passing it to someone else. Please have the students BRING THEIR TEXTBOOK to class next week.

GEOGRAPHY

Grace led us in the flag salute then we collected the Clue Cards the students made last week. Jackson read our card for this week and Marty's awesome riddle led us all the way to Iceland! We then began our Mapping Centers. Each TableTeam had a different mission and each team successfully completed one mission today. Each TableTeam will have three others they can complete next week (Compass Rose, Map Grid, Parts of a Map, and Types of Maps). Once they got the hang of it, the students really worked hard, cooperatively, to hone their mapping skills!

IEW

Sebasitien and Jett both gave great Oral Reports from their homework KWO! We completed the KWO for "Belling the Cat" together in class and the students practiced their oral reports with a partner. We reviewed verbs and I introduced the banned verbs. We dialogued about making our stories interesting using fancy "strong" verbs. We discussed how our words are like art, they help to paint a picture of the story that is in our imagination. I demonstrated the contrast of a boring story and a riveting story and can't wait to see what they come up with as they rewrite the "Belling the Cat" fable.
