Science

I read the story “The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross” and prayed for the class to open our day today. We turned in our reading logs so Miss Chelsea could get the calculations started while we continued with our fun filled day. Next up was an Easter object lesson experiment. I took a penny (me) and poured colored water over it (sin). I put a white candle (Jesus) right in the middle of the sin and lit the flame (light of the world). After some discussion about what happened to Jesus I took a jar and covered the candle until the flame was extinguished. Suddenly, all the colored water (sin) was sucked up into the jar removing it from the penny (me). We enjoyed a review video for Unit 5 that recapped some of the severe weather we see in our world. The rest of the time was spent playing Quiz Jeopardy. Every team worked really hard and the students were so enthusiastic. It certainly helped to solidify our knowledge of weather.

Geography

Before jumping into our awesome presentations we took a minute to award our Read-A-Thon all-stars! All six students who read 1000 or more minutes were awarded a prize! I told the students about an Easter tradition in Bermuda. Every year on Good Friday, people gather together to fly kites they have spent time making during the season. This is in remembrance of Jesus' ascension. Each student picked out a kite of their own to take home. The rest of class was filled with amazing Asia presentations...and a LOT of Asian treats. The students enjoyed everything from mochi to baklava and quite a few homemade delights! The students colored in their Asia map as each student presented their country.

I passed back the "Kite" final drafts (these can go in the final draft notebook) and collected the "Fishing" final draft. After reading “Twas the Morning of Easter” I presented our project for the day. The students were to write a letter/prayer to God. This was entirely open ended. We have often talked about how prayer has one requirement...it must be honest. They could ask questions, give thanks, or just let God know how they feel. When they finished, they watercolored the paper. I'll take the tape off, which will form a cross in the middle and have these up at Open House for you to take home. The students used the remaining time to enjoy some final in class reading before grabbing a easter egg gift and heading off to the Seder Meal.
