Thank you for all of your kindness this past week as our family recovered, it was truly a lifeline for us.

SCIENCE:

Lily R. opened our class with prayer this morning. After announcements I reminded the students that today was our wrap it up quiz for unit 3. A look of horror crossed most of their faces as they suddenly remembered. To their surprise (and delight) I let them know that I changed plans (a little). Given the holiday break and my absence last week, I found it appropriate to transform what would have been our written individual quiz into a table team Jeopardy game. We had so much fun playing and it seems to me the students just might have retained more this way! They were competitive and cooperative. The winning team took a trip to the treasure chest, but we were all "winners" of knowledge and fun!

GEOGRAPHY:

After the flag salute, Hudson read a clue card that led us to Australia. We then used our maps to find Peru. We munched on Peruvian potato chips while we watched a brief video about South America. Afterward, we completed the South America Escape Room where the students read and answered questions regading South America's culture, geography, and landmarks before decoding puzzles to crack the final code. Every team made it through! Once they collected their precious treasure, the students were invited to write one thing they learned on the whiteboard.

IEW:

We began this time by listening to and discussing our memory verse song. I collected the rough drafts for Section I of Pecos Bill and passed back the Damocles Final Drafts (these should go in the Final Draft notebook). We discussed #6 sentence openers, also known as the "very short sentence" and we read a few examples. The students will be adding this in their Section II draft. Next up, we reviewed the checklist for Section II and made note of the three types of things we should include (dressups, decorations, and sentence openers). We focused on decorations for a bit by creating our own examples of similies and hyperboles. Lastly, we reread Pecos Bill and outlined Section II to prepare for our RD this week.
